PRX and Talent Quest On Tour

Submitted by adrianne on November 28, 2007 - 12:27pm. ::

. . . Well, not on tour, exactly, but about as close as we get: public radio conferences!

From PRPD in Minneapolis:
PRPD (that stands for Public Radio Program Directors) is where we announced the winners of the Talent Quest. But wait, there was more. Here are some audio highlights from the sessions:

  • Benediction - Bill Kling, President and CEO, American Public Media: listen
  • Keynote - Patricia Harrison, President and CEO, The Corporation for Public Broadcasting: listen

See You At Third Coast?

We're packing our suitcases here at PRX. Literally, here, at PRX: we've got two hard suitcases full of monitors and keyboards and handouts in the office, which we sit down on to fasten shut. This is in preparation for the annual awesome Third Coast Audio Festival in Chicago: a swarming of producers, stations, and talent, new and old. (Or, irr, classic. By "old" I mean "classic.")

I know a few semi-finalists may be stopping by the PRX/Vocalo party on Friday night: will we see any of you there? Al, Glynn and Rebecca can tell you, we throw pretty okay parties. And if you haven't checked out the experimental Vocalo air/cyberwaves yet, definitely give that a listen.

Al, Rebecca, and Glynn React

We recorded two sessions of phone calls throughout the run of the Talent Quest: the first calls, to the 10 semifinalists, and the final calls, to the 3 winners.

The first calls involved the entire PRX staff, hooting and hollering on one end, while the finalists hooted and hollered on the other. It was very exciting. But then to our dismay, I realized halfway through that it was necessary to press the "record" button on the mic.

"Aw geez" everyone chorused.

Lesson learned. Recording the second time around was much more successful.

PRX is Hiring!

Are you in the Boston area? Do you looooove PRX? How about the internet in general, public radio in general, crafting concise and helpful email responses for member support, answering the phone and generally keeping our office from exploding?

Well neat. Because we're looking for you, too.

More information and an online application here.

So You Think You Can Produce

Like to tell stories? Check out Chicago's Third Coast Festival Dollar Storeys challenge.

The idea: create a "documentary" that is 2:30 to 3:00 minutes in length, based on one of three dollar store items -- a mug, a mousetrap, and a bike bell. (Listen to submissions here for some examples.)

The deadline? This Friday, August 31st at midnight.

Ah c'mon, you can do it: I haven't started yet either.

Reminder: Round 3 Voting Ends August 19th

Submitted by adrianne on August 13, 2007 - 1:58pm. ::

Hey PRTQers,

Just a reminder to get all of your votes in by Sunday, August 19th at 11:59pm ET. Five of the seven current semi-finalists will proceed to Round Four, one of which is chosen by public vote.

Also, point of information: there's nothing illegal or immoral about spreading the word about yourself/your favorite candidate, as long as you don't do anything illegal or immoral in the process. (If you can't figure out what is illegal/immoral, just ask yourself: WWPRXD?)
