Planned outage 05/16 around 11PM EST

Hi everyone,

Just a heads up - we're putting in a few configuration changes to the site tonight that we believe will improve the performance. You'll see a message that the site is down but it should only be for about 5-10 minutes. We should be back up and running shortly after that.

If you are planning on entering the contest, for that matter even if you aren't, don't forget to fill out your user profile. It'll help potential voters learn more about you and why they should vote for your entry. You can edit your profile by logging in and then going to your "my account" section.

When you are logged in you'll see a grey box on the left side of the page. Click the my account link, then click edit, then personal information. Here's mine for example.

Description of Round 1 categories

We've been asking people with "hostiness" to submit entries when the contest starts on April 16th. When you submit your entry you'll be asked to select from one of three categories. I just put up a page on the site that hopefully will help you figure out which category you should select. NOTE: You can only submit 1 entry and pick from 1 category.

Hi,

We've put together a page to help you find tools to record your audio entry and posted a forum topic about how to upload your entry. A technical note - Your audio entry should be an MP3, 128K/sec and 44.1Khz.

How did we build this? Part 1

Submitted by matt on March 7, 2007 - 4:33pm. ::

In the spirit of sharing information with our public broadcasting peers I thought I'd delve a bit under the covers of the new Public Radio Talent Quest site that we just launched. This post will focus on the decisions that were made and how we got to where we are, part 2 will focus on more of the technical details. Planning the project started in the fall of 2006, we talked about features, rules, user roles and permissions while investigating our technical options. We're primarily a Java development shop, PRX.org is built on Apache/Tomcat/MySQL but we have PHP, Python, Perl and increasingly more Ruby and Rails code everyday. Our development staff is comfortable wading around in any of these languages, so our technical implementation options were wide open.
