The 411 - An idea for my new show

Submitted by ehlrich on May 10, 2007 - 7:54pm. ::

This is an idea that I've been batting around for a long time. I want people to care about the news and the world around them and I hope that this show can do it.

It should be. Let's just hook this guy up with a producer now please. Does he really even need to go through the contest? I was only half listening while emailing and STILL got drawn in. And no, we're not friends. Just seemed effortless with high quality. Done deal.

Wow! This is one of the few ideas that got me really excited! Fantastic! Love the show's "outline". One of my main frustrations, (and for everyone else I know) is not trusting or understanding news and information. Having "experts" weigh in, is very important as long as you have opposing points of view, i.e., two generals home from service in Iraq who disagree on the occupation. This idea sounds so credible. I'd listen! GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for listening to me. You have a great voice, very accessible, and your idea was well thought out and interesting. You know what? You should pursue that idea irrespective of this contest, it seems like you could have something there-I think your approach is necessary. Good luck!

You are definitely one of the best entries I've heard so far. You know what you want out a program, you know what's lacking in other news, and you have a general idea of what a news show should be. You also have a very distinctive voice for radio, and your diction is excellent. Best of luck to you!

Very professional. I can imagine the show being very engaging. Good luck!

You've got a great voice. I wonder why you ( and many others) choose to explain the idea rather than give an example of the idea? Overall, it is an idea worth putting on the air.
Good luck.

This is very very well done. An excellent idea, too, as very few members of the average listening public actually DO know the backstory on things like the Sunni v. Shia divide, and NPR rarely takes the time to go into that kind of basic building block backstory. I think this is an excellent idea, and your pace is fantastic, very listenable!
Good work, sir and good luck to you!

Really, really good! There is a great need for this type of program. We tend to inform the already informed. I'd listen.

I thought your entry was really professional sounding. I could totally see you heading up a show. I like the idea of the show too. I have to admit that I don't keep up with the news too much and there are a lot of topics that I really don't understand (War in Iraq, why gas is so expensive, etc.). Politics just goes over my head - if there were a way you could break it down to an easily understood format for people like me while not making it too elementary for the more in the know listener I think you'd have a great show. Keep it somewhere in the middle. Just be sure to stay unbiased.

Good luck Chris!

P.S.
Like everyone else, I LOVE your radio voice.

First, the take it to the streets bit-- reminds me of the segment on Leno when they do just that. You realize this could be unintentionally comedic. These lengthy, generalized opinions from passersby would take up a good, boring portion of your program. Then you want to bring in an expert for a short while --- then you want a town-hall like segment, which in its premise stereotypes that a gender gap exists, and then you will rephrase the expert in your own words.

The only way this could work, and it could work very well, is as a comedy show. You could pose questions about cellphone use, etiquette, dress, manners and behavior, and get the young folks and old folks joking a bit about how their lives are different... in terms of personal topics. Things everyone can relate to and cares about on a day to day basis. Really cares about. The Iraq war? While important, it's already covered everywhere, and the suni-shia discussion deserves an hour with just a few experts.

Again, take the lighthearted approach and this could really work. Lightbulbs, toothbrushes, lemonade, ice cream, pet behavior, pet names, what people called their grandparents.... Something fun.

give honest feedback!!!! where could i take my voice/approach to get better?

Thanks Sally!
That's all I've done of the show so far. Just a concept that has brewing for a long time. I think that, regardless of the outcome, I will push the idea into some sort of production.

You have a really nice voice. I would certainly listen! Although the blood thing was a bit much to handle at 10:34pm. LOL! Just kidding - it just caught me off guard.

Rock on and good luck!

Thanks! Christopher.

This is an interesting and provocative idea. It piques my own curiosity- just how much does the general public understand about what's going on around them? Great demo segment- fantastic radio voice.

Great idea presented by a guy with a clear, articulated voice. I enjoy reading editorials and hearing other's opinions of world events. Your idea would give many the opportunity to present their views of the news (hey, that rhymes)or ask questions via the radio...I love it!

This is a great concept that would benefit many that simply don't have easy access to the story behind the story that is missing from the majority of our media stories. I predict that one will soon be able to win "Christopher Currier's voice on your answering machine" (Sorry Carl Castle...)!

Submitted by Judineal on May 12, 2007 - 12:04am.

I love the idea for this show! I consider myself and educated person, but it is hard to keep up with all the news in the world, and even harder to get a multi-faceted view of how people see the issues. This show sounds informative, educational, and thought provoking. I know I would tune in.

Mr. Currier. I never realized what a terrific public radio voice you do indeed have. That was incredible. I have goose-bumps. I was very impressed with the ideas and the tone and timbre of your voice.

Good Luck!

The premise of the show is fantastic. There are so many things that the media leaves out...the necessary building blocks to understand the happenings of the world around us. It would be great to have a program that would take this on and help to further educate us.
