Snoopy, World Peace and the Man within

My mission in my life has been to make people laugh at themselves and keep things FUN. I see a mix of radio theater and improvisation in my future. Plus my wife bet me that I wouldn't do this. Give me a chance or it's back to selling Long Term Care Insurance.

...when we could have this guy on radio? He's got a face MADE for radio! (insert rim shot here). He's smart, witty, and I bet he can still belt out "76 trombones" anytime..anywhere. He is also very tall which I understand is important if one is to become a successful radio humorist. Did I mention he can also play drums and sing at the same time? And I'm not talking Ringo Starr novelty act type singing either. We want Doug!

Doug has always been our favorite clown next to Bozo.

Submitted by shootslowe on May 30, 2007 - 7:26pm.

He's right. He has been making people laugh--probably before 4th grade. And he still is (check out "Nip and Tuck" on YouTube.) What a great opportunity this would be for you, Doug. Good luck!

Okay, so it's no shocker that he used Snoopy as a centerpiece for this. Doug and Snoopy both have sunny dispositions and a willingness to skip in public. I can't imagine anyone more suited for a venture like this! He is also one dedicated dude to whatever he does. Go, Dougie!

From nowhere to somewhere all thanks to Doug......

Your talent flows, rocks and adds to others....

You sure added to me.

Smiles, laughs and a profound intellect.

Doug.

I will be listening.

is there any rating below one star ? You know the great thing about the real Snoopy is that he Doesn't talk. (Hint hint Doug) Just joking. All the best, seems a grand job. He scribbles, He Schuetz, He SCORES !!! Feel free to use that buddy...PS, When will you be mailing me the $20 for voting?

you are definitely the man.

(Not "The Man," as in the one you work for -- I mean the other one.)

Mentioning Peanuts will get you all kinds of stars with me.

Wow, that takes me back to sitting in the dorm at Stanford and marveling at how one guy can have the whole 2nd floor in stitches in one fell swoop. This is the guy for the job! Don't let him kid you, he was one of 4 1/2 drama majors at Stanford... and by the way, kudos to his wife and daughters, who I am sure woke up one morning with baby chicks wearing groucho glasses in their easter baskets... or had to put up with Doug's incessant questioning at the hareware store about shingles, rasps, and putty. He's your man. He's our man. He's THE man. Best of luck, Doug.

I like how you just went for it! There was perhaps a tad too much spluttering for my taste, I might have preferred to hear a written piece that wasn't SO free form, but still I enjoyed how your personality came through in this submission.
Good luck to you!

Thanks for the help. I did sputter a little, but maybe a tad too much coffee.

Thanks for listening.

This piece really does. It's funny and off the cuff, and you have the same desire to make people laugh in your own way. Good job!

Could i invite Doug to all my kids weddings and could I ask him to make a toast??

Submitted by DanKerman on May 24, 2007 - 7:31pm.

And that's pretty high praise. I'm not sure that NPR judges will feel the same way, but I liked this. A lot.

Please let me know what you think of my own Jean Shepherd and Firesign Theater influenced efforts (though it probably doesn't show much) at Timing Is - Everything.

Good luck!

It's like 1977-78 all over again...
Feelin' down? Feelin' lonely, confused, frustrated, stressed-out, angry or just blah....Then, what YOU need to do is get a dose of Dougie.

Dougie makes you laugh, cry, rejoice. Dougie puts it all in perspective. VOTE for Doug, and he'll light up the airwaves with his Doug-iness!

OK, this had to be improvised. How many takes before you got what you wanted? As much as you try to deflect it, there's real craftsmanship in this: The way you interrupt yourself, the little bit about "getting off track"...it's really very well done.
