Rich's Big Radio Adventure

Submitted by Rich Meitin on May 11, 2007 - 9:45am. ::

I’ve a passion for helping folks tell their compelling personal stories. So, it seems only fair to start by sharing a misadventure of mine - about my early love for radio, and evil nuns (the two DON’T mix). Go to www.RichMeitin.com for the complete version, and much more. I scored this, too.

I concur w/the comments below. I laughed out loud several times. Enjoyed your use of sound, and your delivery was perfect. Good luck!

Great voice and brilliant production value! Hope you make it on to NPR!

Wow, Sally recommended this entry and she was right...this is fun, funny and in the spirit of old time radio drama. This might bring back the best of the best radio, we can hope! You rated 5 Stars with me!

I haven't heard anyone out there telling a radio story as well as you have--wonderful 2 minutes!

A audio spectacular.

You allude in your description to "helping folks tell their compelling personal stories". I'd like to hear about that, but not at the cost of any part of the two-minute adventure you did provide.

I loved the way you orchestrated the story.

My guess is that you have listened to quite a number of these entries. I wonder whether you would give me the benefit of your perspective on mine, Timing Is - Everything.

Thanks and good luck to you!

Very cool. NPR could do worse than to just run two minute productions by you. All the best.

This is what our ADD nation needs- soundbite stories!
Your timing was perfect!
Best of luck. Hope to hear more from you.

Truly superb. I can't WAIT to listen to more.

By the way, I didn't go to Catholic school, though I DREAMED of wearing those fantastic uniforms. However, my assistant principal in junior high had his fraternity paddles hanging on the wall behind his desk...and he used them. Thank God he only used them on boys. I'm all for women's liberation...in some cases.

Best of Luck!

I was impressed already by your evocative writing (I particularly liked your decription of the sister's face turning thundercloud grey!), but then I re-read your little blurb and saw you scored it yourself! It was all put together quite nicely, had a good flow, and ended well!
All told a great submission. Good luck to you!

NPR's gonna hijack the best brain in the biz. This is outstanding work - it's a mellow hit to the ear that makes you sit up and listen. As always, you deliver the tunes, the story, the heart. . . Luv ya!

This is an opportunity for NPR! Richard Meitin is a unique combination of talent, whit, insight, skill and technique. Fresh and new to radio with a long history of sound design, musicianship and artistry. I hope to hear his stories again and again ON NPR!!!

It would be a real coup for Public Radio if Rich Meitin was added to its already wonderful programming. How one man can have so much talent is almost unfair. (And sound production is only part of his artistry: he's also a great chef.) Let's hear him!

Nice work, Rich. One stop shopping for all the elements of compelling radio story-telling that ought to make you a winner with anyone looking to fill the airwaves with valuable fuel for our imaginations. But for the likes of you this might be a vanishing art form. So give the paisley horse a sugar cube and I'll catch you on the Funway.

Rich's sweet and, funnily enough, honest story was the greatest companion for my morning. Thanks Rich* That voice can accompany the airspace in my apartment ANYtime. :)

Awesome. Love the excellent storytelling and production value, mixed in nicely but never overwhelming. I agree with many here - if the next round of the Quest doesn't come calling, surely you've made some excellent contacts and perhaps even NPR will tap your skills and enthusiasm. Thanks for a wonderful addition. A great way to start my Monday! Best - patrick

Its hard to find these days... But you have come up with a truly different, bran new way of telling a story.. The soundtrack was every bit as exciting as the story itself.. Very creative balance and charm..
I would be a regular listener, for sure!
