Just a baring-my-soul bit about hostiness and what I think makes great talk radio. Warning: My computer's sound card is rotten and we are poor, so this bit recorded on an online audio-capture device presents me, unvarnished, vulnerable and sans bells and whistles.

I'm sorry that I didn't hear your entry before they pulled the voting apparatus, because I would have given you five stars. The fact that you posted that yours was the last entry you listened to made me click over to hear you - because I understood where you were coming from, and I sensed that your entry would have great meaning for me personally - and it did. Keep on fighting the good fight on many levels - you have the spirit and the soul to shine and light up the dark places in the world.

Whew. On so many levels ... whew. This is the one that stopped me cold. Had me listening, really listening. You had me with your submission. That would have been enough. You further sealed it with your bio ("Daddy could *sing* ... Every word that came from his mouth poured from his soul, and he navigated the difficult turns ... with ease.") That says as much about you as him. But what cemented it was going to your website and reading your piece about J. Falwell. Your explanation of why you would weep - legitimately weep - for a man who "...did some f**ked-up, downright evil things in the name of Jesus..." proved to me yours is a voice we need to hear. Judges ... just do this. Reserve a slot. This is the first, and I anticipate, only time I will write that. The very, very best of luck to you - patrick

Thank you, Patrick. You gave me this day's first smile, and I've been up for hours already. Hoping your day is as stellar as your submission.

i like what you're attempting here but it could be much better though...try a little harder next time

Submitted by NDavis on May 20, 2007 - 7:25pm.

that I didn't try hard enough is insulting. How the hell do you know how hard anyone tried? Criticism is fine and can be valuable, but if it serves only to poke a finger in someone's eye, I don't see the point. Do you have details as to how, specifically, I fell short in your eyes?

Man, Sally forth's comment is just rude.

It doesn't matter, the quality of your recording. What matters is the quality of your personality, and your voice, both of which are very high. Good luck, ma'am and I look forward to hearing more.

Shameless self promotion time!

I really liked this... sounds professional yet personal/relaxed. VERY nice style:
quibbles:
* I know this is intro to self & stuff, but would have preferred an excerpt of an actual interview.
the grammarian in me can't help but comment on "Your" in place of "You're."
the quibbles are minor...
I hope you advance...
and thanks for your comment on mine- defending the lack of production @

I was working from the documented notion that in the first round, all they wanted was to hear us, that adding elements would come in later rounds. Yes, this is keeping me from sleeping, and June 4 is a long way away... (ya-a-awn, stretch...)

As for your vs. you're, where did I make that mistake? The title, as written by me, includes "you're." (I'm a bit of a grammar freak too.) I ask you to look at it again.

I am glad to see that you know have a clear idea of what your roll as a host would be. I know many people who have no idea what it means to be the voice behind the radio dial.

Dear Natalie,

You appear to be someone who understands this sight more than others, not to mention someone who is willing to help out. What the 'hey' is an affiliate point, how do you get them and what are the "worth"?

If it helps public radio, I'm in...but can you point me in the direction of that elusive secret garden door?

Thanks, Sally

PS I just read your bio and you ROCK!
Let's keep in touch.

Submitted by NDavis on May 15, 2007 - 8:36pm.

The affiliate points are for people/stations/organizations who get the PRTQ web graphic and post it on their own web sites to bring traffic to the Quest site. When people click from, say, my site to come to the PRTQ site, I get points. Now, those points are separate from the user points that we get for voting and posting and commenting. I believe the powers that be are still determining what the points, both affiliate and user, will bring to those with the most at the end of it all. 'Tis a mystery.

If you have a web site of your own or one with which you are affiliated, I am sure the Quest crew would appreciate your becoming an affiliate -- it all helps public radio.

And you rock too!
