GEO BEACH - a human host for public radio

The great public radio host isn't meat and potatoes -- he's the spice that brings the guests alive, the chef who serves a table of friends.

Geo Beach is the whole package; warm, funny, thoughful, surprising - not to mention spicy. And that voice, that voice! Any producer who has worked with him knows he is a dream contributor. Need a gem? Call Geo.

that's what we need more in public radio...warmth, humor and a sense that we'll be okay... thanks for the uplift! now I'm ready for a martini!

Geo, you have a warmth and bemusement about life that comes through loud, clear and engagingly. Behind that "aw shucks" Homer, Alaska boy is a guy of great intelligence, skill, and sharpness. I am confident you'd do a great job as the host of a new nationwide public radio show and I urge others to support you in your "quest."

Great analysis and analogy into the nature of a host! Your delivery is very spirited and enthusiastic. The salad dressing verse salad idea cuts right to the heart of the matter. Nice job!

I’d love to see Geo get a shot. Would be especially cool to have a national voice come out of Alaska. I know a lot of indie producers have spent some time in Alaska, but I can't think of a single national show that originated from a distinctly Alaskan point of view. This year Geo won an award for his commentaries from the Alaska Press Club. They called his writing clear and fiery. I personally would love to hear a little “clear and fiery” grace the public radio airwaves.

Good luck, Geo!

Geo, with that sonorous voice, attention must be paid! Public radio needs your creativity and expression. Scripted laughter doesn't work for me, but keep the humor comin'. We need more of it-

Great Job GEO Beach!

Would love to hear your comments bout my submission and get your thoughts on Rachel Ray, are we similar minds? I love your "knife wielding"! I have a passion for cooking but went in another direction for my 2 minute meet and greet. You have a smooth voice. Great diction as my Aunt Georgie would say.

Good luck to you!

Nice job. Personal, yet public.

I found my way to your entry by way of your comment on Joe Bevilacqua's entry. As you can probably guess, I would agree with you that, certainly in this medium, timing is everything.

For reasons that I hope will become obvious, I'm be interested in your comments on my entry, Timing Is - Everything.

Thanks and best of luck!

This round is not about the show. It is about the host. If Geo Beach were a national public radio host, I'd listen every day.

Geo does have a great voice and one of the warmest personalities any where in broadcasting. He thinks outside the box and his intelligent take on the world and his unbounded enthusiasm is infectious. He is a poet of the microphone.

I'd love to work with him.

....which is just as much a voice of your own...."

This is the crux of Geo's talent, reminding listeners that what we are hearing is just as much about ourselves as it is about the host, guest or even music that is being played. He gets under skin, into your ears, and finds his way into your heart with humor, curiosity and genuine interest. I too am not sure what the show is about but whatever it is, I can assure you that Geo will make it an adventure, one sorely needed in public radio.

... but what's the show about?

Submitted by Tempest studios on June 2, 2007 - 10:02pm.

Jerry Seinfeld wanted Seinfeld to be a show about nothing.

Dean Olsher wanted The Next Big Thing to be a show about anything.

The show's about everything, or maybe something... perhaps one thing at a time.

In this particular case,
"2 minutes of audio introducing yourself as a public radio host, revealing your talents, telling us who you are with a first-person essay, an improvised story, a scripted musing. This is about hearing your personality come through."

Thanks, Stasia -

Of course you know it’s food as metaphor, meta for life. As in “food for knowledge”.

Still, public radio has far too little food -- and love -- to properly reflect life, and listeners want a host who will, if you remember what the dormouse said,

“Feed your head!” And heart.
