Urban Village Radio (children)

The following audio clip is a sample of Urban Village Radio, a children’s radio program I would love to create and host. I wrote this story while teaching a writing lesson to my students. I also created the music and sound effects heard during the story.

Great entry! It does seem a little strange that I can't think of any public radio program that is geared towards kids. Lots of great TV, but not a one radio.

There are a few programs for young listeners. Thus far, I haven't heard one like the one I will create. Listen out- Urban Village Radio is coming to your airwaves.

Thanks so much for your support.

My local affiliate doesn't carry children's programs either...Urban Village Radio will soon take the lead!

You have a great read for children's stories, really illustrative!
Wow, you have two sets of twins?! That's really unusual!
I enjoyed this entry and was captivated all the way through. Great job! Try mine!

I appreciate your comment. "Urban Village Radio" is about combining the ancient tradition of storytelling with modern technology.

I trust you with my child, in an era where most of what's on the radio airwaves threatens my daughter's sense of self. I, too, believe this is part of your purpose. Congratulations on asking for what you want. May you receive it in good time and good faith.

Thanks so much! I sincerely appreciate your support. Yes, my mission is to educate, elevate, motivate, inspire and entertain young ears. Unfortuanately, much of what we hear on our airwaves isn't sweet to our children's ears. My goal is to create "ear candy" through audio literature.

You've got the rare combination of gifts needed to pull off what you're proposing. I especially like that you don't "talk down" to an imagined audience of children.

My dream is to make Urban Village Radio a radio program that children look forward to hearing on a daily basis.

I always wanted a children's program on radio so the kids can appreciate the effort, but also learn by hearing. I think it's a great concept and hopefully if not for this contest, that local stations pick this up.

You'll hear Urban Village Radio bursting through the airwaves some way or another. Keep us in your thoughts and check out our website: Urbanvillageradio.com for updates on our progress. (in the process of updating). Thanks!

Radio should be the next great children's medium with shows like yours.

Thanks so much for your support! My goal is to ensure that radio for kids is the next biggest "edu-tainment" medium.

Your voice drew me in and made my ears perk up. The music and content kept my attention. I agree with another poster that NPR would benefit from a show such as this. Keep up the good work!

Laugh out loud, head back, teeth showing. Peace.

with my 7yr. old daughter. These are her words exactly...
"I think it was black power. I think it was strong. I think she had energy."
She says she'd listen to this right after watching Dora.
(Sorry, She's a super Dora fan!) But coming in second to Dora is not short stopping in her world.
You deserve a place in this quest!

This is just marvelous! My children loved it and would love to hear more. I am very excited and I can't wait to expose my children to this more consistently in the near future!! You got it!!!

I trust that Urban Village Radio is a major part of my purpose-you will hear more. Thanks for your encouragement and support!

My vote on this one doesn't really matter...it's the reaction of my son when I played your entry that supported my initial response. This is extraordinary. I asked my 8yr. old son if he'd like to listen to this everyday, he said YES.
NPR would gain sooo much from this type of programming! Might I suggest a companion book and read aloud CD? This is so POWERFUL. Thank you for entering.
I wish you all the best.
Absolutely wonderful!!!

Thanks so much for your response! I actually do have a children's CD with stories similiar to Akousa's Raindrops. I also have an online workbook on my website: Urbanvillagemedia.com. My website is in the process of being updated. The contact info will change and the Urban Village Tales CD will be available. At present you can go online and purchase the CD from CD Baby. Please check back in a month for updates. Thanks so much!
