Dr. Who? or Dr. Whom?
I couldn’t agree more. Americans today are based on the bad image the warmonger bush has created. Many places of the world are afraid of ‘Americans’. People like Bush are turning America into an enemy. I hope this is just a phase that will soon pass.
My favorite part of that was The Texaco Opera Quiz. They'd play a few bars of an obscure aria from an obscure opera and the panelists would not only know it, they'd have some backstory, too. Thinking about it now, I wonder if it was just a set-up, but that always astounded me.

Just returned from places far...
Your entry brought back great memories; of course I believed it was a proper quiz. I usually got the music pieces, but the historic stuff was a good education. And I always wanted to have a question on, so I could get the 'quiz goodie bag'.
Best,
Christine

As a former English teacher, I applaud you! No use in getting worked up over others' stupidity nonetheless. It won't change them. It could harm your health. So drink port, smile and think about the good things in life. Bravo.

Go, teach!! I'm in Africa and will take your int'l lessons w/ me. Sor for the LM; couldn't they tex? Creakers.
yoyo
Words are magic! And yours are good and clear. Wish I had teachers like yours. Does NPR do 'public teaching'?
You're totally right about the Brits! Great entry and pitch perfect delivery!
Great voice and obviously a lot of experience. Narrow-mindedness is for commercial, we hope. Let's hear more.
I agree. Where are all the old WCAL listeners? Get clicking for Christine.
Christine, I remember you from WCAL in the Twin Cities. Great music and theater reviews! You don't give your ideas for new shows, however I KNOW they'll be unusual and risky. If NPR doesn't take you, I bet API does.
I'll revive the "Critic Christine" Fan Club. Why didn't you tell everybody sooner!!! WCAL fans unite.
Thanks for the humor. I'll use it the next time I'm in London!!!!
Way to go, professor! But not in French/Italian/Russian ......., too?
Cool! Long live satire. Different from the usual stuff.
Well, I learned something new from your two minutes, and it seems as if you'd have a lot more to offer. Good luck.
I realize this is for NPR, but there really are worse things than waking up an American - or is your outlook just generally dour?
Cool how anonymous entries bring out the REAL unintelligent, and then they get to show off their 'I completely missed the point' without taking responsibility for their pettiness. You guys here have probably not heard the term 'Flame Wars'. That's Internet speak for throwing email back and forth. This "MJ" should be escorted back to Florida and have his thickening arteries cleared out. Maybe he'll understand satire then.
is that you are ALSO an anonymous 11 pointer. Pretty funny that you are dissing on him for doing that and then doing the same thing.
I thought I would take your lead.
Christine,
Note: I already posted a response in my comments section, but since then I've learned it means more to post it here. So, sorry if this is redundant, but I'm a stickler for protocol. Anyway, thanks for being the first person to comment on my submission. I appreciate it.
Your topic is timely and engaging and I enjoyed listening to it. Also, I see that, like me, you have professional experience in public radio, which may be why you're listening to a lot of these entries. To get on my soapbox for a moment or two, it amazes me how many people entered this contest, but apparently aren't listening to other people's entries. Maybe I'm missing something, but if I'm right, I just don't get it. In my humble opinion, good radio starts with attentive listening to what others are doing in the medium. Which is simply a long way of saying, I appreciate your thoughtful comments on people's entries.
Good luck with yours.
Mary
Mary,
You are wise! I can't discuss the laws the thermo-dynamics and British opera because I've spent my time chattering. NPR has been losing audiences by the millions, and my observation is that this was one way to attract new voices and new audiences. Of course, the majority haven't a clue and think the whole thing is about 'me'.
Courage,
Christine

Dr. Christine:
Enjoyed your broadcast! It was entertaining as well as informative.

You know, Christine, that number/tense grammatical tick has been bugging me since I first started watching Python back in the '70's. But, since they (the British, not the Pythons) invented it (English, I mean), I've always figured they knew what they were doing.
Well done, and very funny; your delivery is crisp and clever. You come across as erudite but not snooooty, a very host-worthy trait. Good Luck!
Now, about the 'S' vs. 'Z' thing...
Rich
tak, rich,
I didn't pitch a show because that's down the line. And it's very serious. NPR is losing audiences, and not picking up new ones. Why do you think CPR funded this 'host search'? Marketing, marketing, marketing. And perhaps a new audience member or two.
From the entries, and the comments, I'd say it's still the converted talking to the converted. Nothing to shake things up, which is what genius, art, whatever you call it, does.
If you make it through, I'd be glad to help you with the laws of thermal dynamics.

As usual Christine, you have a way with words, spoken soft, clear and to the point! You have that carisma it takes to charm everyone that hears you. Good Luck!
