not just for artists...

Your entry played in a different speaker than everyone else's I've listened to! How'd you DO that!!! ;-)

That's some tricky creativity.

Clearly, something was in the air on the evening of May 12th. The approaches were different, but with much common ground.

I enjoyed listening to your entry; for a laugh and perhaps a shudder of recognition, check out mine, Timing Is - Everything.

And with McGuyver-like skill she makes a voice something powerful to listen to. I really like the pauses in your piece, where you let your words sink in and the voices/ambient sound/music peek through the lace of your prose. What a great submission. Really, (not to be too cheesy here) one of the most creatively crafted I've come across. Good luck!

The multi-layered background was the perfect counterpoint to your voice. Very nice! Great production and a warmth that's perfect for NPR.

You have a very appealing radio voice, and, obviously, a creative mind!!!
I suspect your show would be captivating AND help define creativity more broadly.

Submitted by JeSais on May 30, 2007 - 5:09pm.

ah, but creativity is about more than art...
creativity is about finding solutions, looking at things in a different way, from the other side, doing something unique in whatever field.

Thanks for the listen Jennifer.

I love this idea- why put limitations on what we think of as art? Recognizing the extraordinary in the things and people that are around us every day can only be a good thing (tu sais). Good luck!

I had to listen a few times, to make sure that the background conversations weren't part of what you were saying. I'm still not sure.

It certainly held my attention and your idea that everyone is creative made me think a bit.

Thanks, it was certainly worth my time to listen. Good luck to you! :)

The background noises were in essence part of what I was saying, chosen specifically for the content either meaningful or completely off the wall.... A big part of hostiness, to me, is listening.

Thank YOU for listening to me!

Thanks for the creative entry about creativity! I've always wondered when someone commands you to be creative can you really, truly "be creative" or is it something that just happens organically. Something I've run up against now and again and it always leaves me wondering!
Looking forward to hearing more!
Thanks,

I loved you had this background jumble thing going on in the background and you would let your narrative breath so that we could get random glimpses of this happy free form thing. And then the ending of, "which happens to be the Republic of China." What the heck? I thought that was great!

Submitted by JeSais on May 19, 2007 - 1:07am.

THANKS! it was randomly created audio fun with my best friend, a guitar and a harmonica... and a caipirinha
you're the only one so far who's noticed the deliberately placed peoples republic of china. :-)
win or lose, I had a hell of good time!

Thanks for taking a listen to my entry, by the way. Anyway, the other bit I liked was when someone says, "And then, your hand gets really tired." I don't know why, but that cracked me up. This might be totally revealing my inner geek, but the whole harmonica and guitar thing reminded me of a song from homestarrunner.com. Which, as I think about it, is neither here, nor is it there.

You'll have to listen to my radio show to find out if I'm right or not about creativity

And, as for more of me... well, I made a creative choice. To me, hostiness is more about listening than talking.

Of course I could be WAY off base... oh well, I am proud of myself for giving it a shot.

THANKS everyone for listening

I like your voice and the way this is put together, but I can't agree about that main point...I don't think everybody on earth is creative, but more importantly not everybody cares or wants to be.
Still, very nice construction!

Maybe it just channels out differently depending on the person. Some people don't like abstract art but sew their own clothes; some people find TV boring but design better computer parts. I think you could argue that just expressing yourself in conversation (or not) takes creativity.

Submitted by Rebecca Anderson on May 14, 2007 - 1:22pm.

Well done. Background music nice touch. I would have preferred the pauses filled with information about you as 120 seconds vey short.

Hi, you are so right everyone is creative. I think that everything about us is based in creativity. Example. My little girl, eight, has a fasination with sticks. Long sticks, short sticks fat sticks and thin sticks. They become magic wands, band conductors stick, she even found a long one and called it a cane like Mommy uses to get to the neighbors house. Yes, we are creative creatures.

Have you ever read "The Everyday Work of Art"? Can't remember the author, but what he writes about is exactly what you're saying. I think you'd enjoy the book.

Your entry was different - pacing, approach, editing - different. In my way of thinking, different is memorable and what will change the world. Same is same, but different? That's creative. That's you.

the narrative is definitely out the left speaker. I had some technical issues and couldn't stomach another run to guitar center, so I went with what I had. There is audio coming out the right side but it is very subtle. I wonder if that left side dominant thing is a bit of a freudian slip?? hmmmm.

THANKS for listening!

..out of speakers on the right these days. Gimme more left speaker, baby! Teehee!

You're absolutely right about creativity. It's everywhere. Mind you I'm not ENCOURAGING more crocheted covers for tp rolls. The world has enough of them, but your suggestion for a bit of string and - what? - a paper clip? Eminently sensible, that.

Good job! Good luck to you!

In looking at my Title and description it looks like I really went for the minimalist approach. If I could figure out how to edit my entry, I'd probably add that you should listen with headphones if possible because the layers of sound and meaning aren't expressed as well on the regular computer speaker. Thanks for listening!
