There is an assumption that only retired folks have enough time on their hands to spend the time gardening. I know a couple of younger people who garden, and it is a great joy for them.

I don't like getting my hands or clothes dirty. ;) But, I can see the mass appeal of a show like this. Good luck to you!

I was immediately struck by your voice - not just the sound, but its approachability. Its very amiable and draws the listener in. Great piece!

I haven't done much gardening in years, but back in my 20's I was really into it.
There is a show in Chicago on the topic.

I want to hear more, even if I don't have a green thumb, this would encourage us beginners to take a chance and get a little dirt under the nails. This teaser left me on my toes waiting for the next adventures in tilling!!!

Your passion & depth of knowledge all came roaring through, gracefully funneled through a very appealing radio voice.

Beautifully done.

in high school...I liked it. My next venture is to start a community garden in my neighborhood...I'm in the initial phases, just trying to get a grant and community support. Yours could be a show I use as a tool to train and teach our youth gardners. Yep, you definitely have an interesting and needed show topic.
Good luck on this quest!

Don't know if you've heard his entry yet, the rock n' roll garden show. It is enjoyable. So is yours. I am a young(ish) gardener myself. Just got some beans in today (we have a super short growing season. It just froze two nights ago). And I like to think of my gardening as both a healthy habit and a radical statement. I want to be involved with the food I grow, the environment surrounding my home, and I don't want to settle for what the old man who lived here before grew. Gardening is personal and transformative. And, I would definitely listen to your show. You have a very nice voice and a solid presentation. This is a really strong entry. Good job and good luck.

Wow, not only is this a cool entry, but I really DO want to hear part two! I really like your energy, your pacing, and most importantly, the topic! I love being constantly surprised on this talent thingy by what subjects I'll find interesting! Your enthusiasm is practically communicable!
Great entry. Good luck to you! Try mine?

Great work, Christy! You have a wonderful radio voice! And the world needs more *green* knowledge!

I agree. I have 'garden center disease': I can't go to a nursery without buying a plant. The BBC has a couple models. One is Gardener's World, where a team goes around to different garden clubs every week. Very sweet and very informative. Good luck.

Take a listen to mine when you get a chance. Similar tone.

I like your "hostiness" and would love to hear more of what you do. Plus, it seems that the appeal of your gardening show is broad: I'm not really a gardener, but nevertheless was left wanting to hear the rest of the show!

This is well done, but it doesn't stray at all outside the current NPR demographic. This could run right after Travel with Rick Steeves, and hardly anyone would have to change the dial on their radios. Again, really well done, but it doesn't reach out to anyone new.

sorry I couldn't resist :) nice work. I agree it was rushed, but understandably considering the time limit. more importantly I think you have some great ideas and would love to see an NPR show about organic gardening and environmental awareness. Good luck!

I enjoy your "hostiness" but how you still maintain a clear sense of yourself. I would like to see what you could do with a little more time . . . you seemed rushed in parts, but you always brought it back to calm. Good job!

With all due respect, I strongly disagree with the previous commenter's opinion about the prospective listenership of this show. Gardening has high appeal to all ages, genders, political camps, ethnicities and incomes - from little tots up the elderly - with everyone in between, from back-to-the land neoHippies and yuppies, to conservative neocolonial types trimming their hedges and rose bushes.

Indeed, I can think of very few topics (after food, money and sex) with more instinctual and universal appeal, as helping plants grow. You simply can't predict an audience until it's out there on the airwaves. I think it has great popular potential.

My vote: I loved this 'pilot' and I hope we get to hear a lot more!
