The Quest, at 40 Degrees Below Zero

Every winter, I go on a Quest: the Yukon Quest. It’s a sled dog race that covers 1,000 miles from Alaska to Canada’s Yukon Territory. It’s my job to find the stories that make you care.

Nice story, diction and delivery. What's your hurry?

Where as I sound oh so chalant almost all the time.

I would love to hear what you'd do as a host of a national show.

Libby, this is fantastic! What a cool job (no pun intended). I keep hearing entries from people in Alaska and it really makes Alaska public radio intriguing. I think three of the strongest entries I've listened to (yours included) have been from people in Alaska. Anyway, you managed to grab my attention and keep it. You really took me with you along the Quest and introduced me to a couple of people along the way. Great job.

This was very clearly read and concisely written! I'm not a dog fan, but I found this interesting to listen to!
Good luck to you!

Your voice is like a musical instrument. Thanks for telling this story. I think the reporters run a race, not the same one as the mushers, but a race just the same when they cover an event like the Quest. You stay honest to the mission, to tell us the stories from the trail, without thought for personal gain or profit.
Excellent!

I enjoyed your piece Libby. You have a lovely voice for reporting. I picked up on the tracking being pushed up a bit too... I s'pose you could say you were cold... tee hee. Good luck in this crazy quest!

Libby,

You know I am a HUGE FAN! Love your work and your coverage of my FAVORITE AK SPORT rocks! I love your Quest coverage. Reporters in AK are a rare breed- fighting wind, blizzards, temps fit for Dante's 5th circle of hell! Way to go Libby. Best o luck!

I think your work is really great Ms. Casey. I've been following it up for a while now. It combines mellifluous voicing with clear descriptive writing. Artful, engaging, and at the same time informative and fun. Thanks for your wonderful creations!

No one covers dog mushing like Fairbanksian Libby Casey!

I'm so happy you entered this. It's been great fun.

I honestly cannot believe you knew it was a 'Gang of Four' song. I got it off the Marie Antoinette soundtrack. I mean, the cd is pink (bad), but it's full of gloomy 80's 1st wave emo music (good).

Your story is really good. I got sad when the dog cried though. Poor pup!

As always: Awesome.

This is a strong entry. Your voice is attractive and your delivery crisp and clean.

A small complaint: the pacing. It felt hurried. Perhaps you had to edit tightly to make the story fit into two-minute-pants?

Submitted by Libby Casey on May 13, 2007 - 4:21pm.

Yep, Jennifer, I did end up pacing faster than normal to hit the 2 minute mark. Thanks for listening...
