Under the Radar, Over the Top

The show covers music, news and personal stories rarely seen and heard in mainstream radio. The Korean Yodeler who also plays Alpine Horn and how the World's Largest Watermelon led to a million selling hit in 1935. Topical, evergreen, fascinating, poignant and interesting. http://www.cathymarcy.com

Cathy, I liked your sensibility for going outside of the box when it comes to the (un)common human experience. Korean Yodeler, hmmm, that certainly offers a different perspective to the entrenched cultural images we store in our mind.

Have you thought about possibly gearing this show to children (or young at heart)? They LOVE the uncommon and with your musical abilities and love of stories, you would seem to be a natural fit.

Cheers,
Khotan

Khotan-
As it would happen, I actually perform and record for children for a living. PBS has never expressed interest in that kind of children's/family progamming, but as you point out, it's a void on public radio. I hope if I'm lucky enough to get a show, the whole family would be able to listen together.
Thanks for the feedback,
Cathy

I think public radio already covers things out of the "mainstream," that you think lack coverage. I think also that a million-selling album in the 1930s was a huge "mainstream" event. I can't see your angle -- it's kind of all over the map. And if I hear one more generalization about Mainstream vs. NPR I might have to go have a beer.

There's nothing in this world I hate more than generalizations.

Hi Cathy,
I love the title of the show. Lends itself to all kinds of quirky topics. Great idea!

Ultimately the paradoxes of life make fools of us all. So if we would be wise we should study life's paradoxes and confront our abject foolishness head on.

And I think that was the longest run-on sentence I've ever heard in my life. ;)

I'm a sucker for the banjo, and stories I haven't heard before. I loved this 2 minutes and you have my 3rd 5 star vote in 2 days. I hope to hear more from you soon!

...a female Garrison Keillor. As I'm a big fan of his, I mean that in the best way possible. You're down-to-earth and honest in your delivery. Good work!

In addition to interesting tidbits, I like the overall concept of Under the Radar, Over the Top. You have a polished structure and approach. Bravo.

Check out my posting: Very different from yours instructure, but I tried to add an overall conceit as well.
