I am an actor/director/teacher in the Boston area. This is an intro to a show which would produce radio plays (originals as well as adaptations of classic and contemporary stage plays) and present stories and interviews of theaters and theater artists of all backgrounds.

Richard, I am a theater lover, but I haven't listened to much drama on the radio. I loved the excerpt, and your bit at the end! I think you would put together a great show, and it would make for compelling listening.

Great job!

Richard, I do hope you make it - I love radio theater, and think that your ideas (and production!) are great. Best of luck!

Great segment, very polished. People in the radio business are quick to tell you that radio is theater for your mind - yet actual radio theater is a dying artform. Here's to the revival, well done.

Great job, Richard... I hope we both make it to the next round.

I feel like recent generations have not discovered the excitement and delight of theater. I love the idea of having a convenient, exciting and clever way of reaching the masses with plays. I was able to visualize the character and the situation with Richard's captivating voice. Best of luck seeing this through!

Excellent bit! It is clear, interesting and well done all around. What a wonderful voice! Great work!

Great reading! You brought him to life. Love the concept of dramatic readings and interviews of playwrights and/or actors.

The public radio audio stage, that is.
This is one of only a few ideas for shows that I would actually listen to. I especially like how you got that little "now the news" segue in at the end. Very nice. Good radio instincts.

brings me back to the days of radio drama, yet yours is fresh with lots of new and modern ideas. would love to hear this on the air.

Perhaps, I'm a little biased - but I would love to see/hear MORE audio theatre on the air (after the news - of course).

Kudos for presenting a dramatic piece - great job! All the best!!!

Richard,
Loved your demo, would love to see you on the air regularly with this concept. And you sound much better than anybody else in your family. Good Luck

I said somewhere else that I miss listening to NPR Playhouse back when I was a kid and they would air the Star Wars radio show or Shakespeare or I, Claudius. This is a MUCH needed concept, the British have us demolished at narrative radio. Bring it back!
Excellent work, 5 Stars seems too few now!

I would love to sit in traffic and listen to that. Bring back Classic Radio! Your voice is unbelievable, and I found myself so completely invested in the story, short as the clip was. What a great idea for a show!

"Offstage" has my vote! I've listened to many entries and yours really stands out to me. I could actually envision this being an NPR show and feel it could appeal to a wide audience, including those outside the theater world.

You have an interesting show idea and a unique, refreshing radio voice. You're clearly a very talented actor and seem at home behind the mic. I wish you the best of luck and hope you go far in this competition.

Richard, I think your idea for an NPR show is really great...I loved your bit! Original and creative, very cool.

As a current SAG member and working Actor in NY it would be refreshing to hear radio plays and theater discussions on public radio. I hope your show "OFFSTAGE" is chosen. I commend you on your Demo tape and love the jazz music as well as the reading itself. I know I would listen to your show as well as many of my collegues here in NY.

I liked your entry a lot. People who've been in the public radio business much longer than I tell me the days of the radio drama are over. But when I listen to your entry I hear updated themes and production values. The effect of what you've done isn't all that far off from what I take away from a particularly gripping segment on This American Life, for example.

By the way, have you heard the entry from "Sleeves" called Modern "Old-Time" Radio? It, too, takes a successful stab at presenting radio drama. Hint: Be sure to listen all the way to the end:

Thank you for your kind words. I do think that people could still be open to enjoying high quality radio plays. They've been saying for decades that the theater is dead and it's still plugging along!
