Slices of Life

Slices of Life will explore people’s lives, cultures, and languages to learn how these elements mold their unique perspectives. We will explore a single theme from varying points of view and learn how each slice of life holds different meanings but equal significance for all of us.

In this day and age, I think it's very important that the media provided by respected voices like NPR should have a global, inclusive, international and diverse take on the issues that matter most. Karen's work does just that, and that clearly sets her apart from the other samples I have listened to.

Karen is articulate and creative and has a genuine interst and drive to be a new voice on NPR. I love her stories and ideas - she follows in her Dad's footsteps as a storyteller and a very large and colorful character. Vote for her! AS

The show's concept - exploring how a topic can be internalized across myriad cultural landscapes - is not only one with a great deal of promise for entertainment value, it is also one that is of real importance as a means of discouraging intolerance. The host brings a wealth of interesting stories and experiences of her own and she has a natural curiosity that the show's subjects will no doubt find very engaging. Put Slices of Life with K Seiger on the air!

kseige is a personal friend of mine, and from past experience, I know that I want to hear more of what she has to say. A wonderfully engaging personality and a terrific writer. Slices of Life would be a dream come true for her, and the public radio audience would benefit from her lifetime of experiences and ideas. On to Round 2 for kseige!

Sounds like she would be a normal employee and not much trouble in personality. Her enthusiasm could be contagious. I would hire her.

Warm voice, excellent pace. The bits you shared make the listener want to hear more.

Even if you found no one else to offer perspectives -- your own perspective sounds unique enough to populate an entire program. I think you have a memoir to work on after your radio career. I would gladly be your reader or listener -- either way.

Another Great clip. You sound like someone that would be heard on public radio.

I would hate to be a judge there are too many great entries!!!!!!!!

Loved your road trip story. I sure dig driving but you've got me beat with your family car trek to Costa Rica. Enjoyed your idea and your passion for gathering stories was obvious. Thanks so much.

Nice Karen,

You made me feel you and your authority to bring this program on. You sounded slightly nervous, but you really do have the goods so trust that.

I think that is a continuation of how I would like to see success defined; one who builds inclusion and connectedness to a larger world existence. I look forward to the show!

this, what you've done, is the promise of public radio made real. nice voice, an idea that fits right in with the very best shows I've heard on NPR/PRI and different enough to be added to the line-up without making it 'more the same'...excellent. I'd listen to you! good luck!

Boy, I love your hosting persona. What a warm voice -- it makes me feel right at home, almost like in the golden age of radio when families would sit around listening to FDR from a box set atop the hearth.

I'm voting for you!

I really like the format that you have designed for Slice of Life. Like Fresh Air and This American Life, I think a show like this will attract listeners across varied backgrounds as people are innately curious about how other's live, think, feel and believe.

The mood you evoke through your speaking is at once relaxing, yet intriguing. I believe that listeners will appreciate your conversational approach. Your midwestern sensibilities, combined with what sounds like a diverse background should enable you to understand what people across the country care about and help you in attracting interesting people to your show. Good luck.

The minute your voice came through the speakers, I could feel myself relaxing - you have such a comfortable radio presence! And I love the idea of introducing culture and language to the show - it took me years to understand that my own Japanese-Jewish background was 'exotic' to some people. Exposure to many different points of view enriches our lives and makes us more compassionate. I can hear it in your own voice and in your entry, which I love. Thanks!

Karen -

You clearly have the chops and the concept. Combined with your travels and exposure to other cultures (sadly lacking in much of America) this could be a great show. People NEED to hear other ideas and perspectives to help them not only overcome their built in prejudices, but also to let them revel in the realization that we're all very much the same.

Bon chance!

I think your voice is really listenable. I think this is a good idea. I'm a fan of This American Life, and Here on Earth already. I think your idea-while similar- would have an entirely different delivery and pace coming from your voice and your life experience. Best of luck!

And your voice is so easy to listen to.

Best of luck,

No one should, look back with regret on all that they never did: the beauties they did not see, the music they did not hear, the flavors they did not taste, the aromas they did not inhale, the sensations they did not feel.

That's so cool that you got the show idea all worked out, it sounded really good!

That's cool that you're such a linguist. I've been trying to learn some Japanese over the last year, it's been tough, but fun. To goof off a bit, I like to speak "Redneck Japanese" to my friends. It usually puts them in stitches.

If you listen closely, you can hear one of my goofy voices in the beginning of my segment. It's my attempt at Meatwad from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

I love the "Slices of Life" idea! What a great way to understand others' experiences and perspectives in the diverse, multicultural world in which we find ourselves.

The host has a sophisticated yet approachable persona, too. I'm looking forward to the first broadcast of "Slices of Life."
