You've really got something here! We need something to help offset the kind of news that we are exposed to all, the, time. And it's not just a great idea--you also have a really nice, easy delivery. I wish you the best of luck--5 stars!

Good news does too sell! And people are more likely to repeat a good news story to their friends than bad news. You'll be perfect for radio.

Hi Geri,

Thanks for bringing to us good news that we can laugh about...great news that we can feel joyful about...News and stories that will inspire! The magnificent world that we live in is not dying, the violence has not increased, it is just that the main news media (tv and print news) focuses on the negative stuff 90% of the time and don't report on all the great stuff that that is happening today in 2007. Thanks once again and I hope you win....we need more positive voices to fill they airwaves!

I had to laugh at myself as I started to cringe when the first news topic came up - despite your title, I still was bracing for bad news! Can you believe it. We're all brainwashed! Great idea. I'd listen for sure. Good luck.

This is a great idea. I have a friend who has a "Small Change News Network" that is also about small, positive changes. Additionally, I know someone in Italy who used to put out an electronic bulletin with good news.
Good news helps people to get active, and that is what we need.

Submitted by g00d_news on June 1, 2007 - 4:48pm.

Sergio!
I've known him for years...

But, regarding "small changes"... We are about BIG changes and compelling-ly great, heart-hitting news!!

This is a great concept, and much needed in today's depressing world of news. My mom has been clipping and mailing Readers Digest articles to me all my life. I used to get envelopes at college with nothing more inserted than some great story that she thought I needed to read.

There is a desire for people to get some positive vibes and to have exposure the great and wonderful things that happen in life every day. You can deliver that message, and apparently you DO, and quite successfully.

I receive the GNN email every week. It's great to read about the good things that are happening in the world. It will be even better to hear more of these stories on public radio!

Thank you for GNN! It's way overdue. It's time to give the optimists the spotlight. A good attitude is contagious.
So why are you here in a contest? Sounds like you have abundant resources already.

Is it hard to come up with ten pieces of good news with regularity?
Marsha

Submitted by g00d_news on May 29, 2007 - 7:59am.

Not at all hard, Marsha...

In fact, if I had a license to rebroadcast AP stories (associated press) it would be actually hard to whittle the number down to ten.

As it is, I have an easy time finding ten compelling stories. Here is a link to all my weekly lists from May to November. Enjoy.

Listening to your story about the death row inmate gave me goosebumps, Geri. This world cannot have too much goodnews and I enthusiastically commend you on your work and wholeheartedly support the effort to widen your listening audience. This is way overdue -- great delivery and great news - I'd tune in and spread the word to my many friends sick of hearing unbalanced stories about how terrible the world is and how scared we should be. We need something (many things) positive to celebrate. They should hire you today!
Do you have a podcast?

Submitted by g00d_news on May 26, 2007 - 9:27am.

Thanks!

It's so true, I laughed (reading what you said about being SCARED --> "Must be afraid... very afraid," is the local news mantra!)

I will start a weekly podcast soon! a top ten countdown of the week's good news...

stay tuned to the website... now that I know everyone likes what they hear!

Sounds great, but how objective are you really?

Submitted by g00d_news on May 26, 2007 - 8:39am.

What do you want to know exactly?

You can also go to my website and check out years of stories and judge for yourself. http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org

I don't give both sides of every issue, because most people know all the negative points already. They know there's global warming and the effects of that, they know there's murder, deceit, bombings, etc.

I'm providing what they don't know.. that fortune 500 companies are now investing hundreds of billions to lessen their impact on the environment, that certain crime rates (on the NYC subways, in Florida, and in England) have dropped dramatically in the last ten years, that SOME CEO's are cutting workers in on the piles of profit.

I read the latest at GNN every day and have shared it with many people at work and home.

Geri,
Please keep up the GREAT positive work. The world needs it. I set your website to my homepage to balance the terrible onslaught of bad news and sensationalism from other news sources.

Thanks, and I'll be listening for you on NPR.
