Red Shirts Rising
I want to do a show about geek culture: Anime, Comics, Sci-fi, Fantasy, Video Games, Role Playing Games, cosplayers, Etc. I see it as interviews, reviews, convention coverage, stories of geek experiences, etc. I want to have a very female spin to it but by no means leave the guys out.

I’ve come to see that the ultimate source of all human anguish is that we are finite beings sentient of infinity.
Very nice!

Hey, Sarah, Maybe it's time to have a PRTQ event in Second Life?? A way for us to more or less meet up in real time from wherever we are? I am very new at Second Life, so don't know how to set this up, but I bet you do! Is there an NPR site in Second Life, and if not, why not?? Jill
I confess, I dont know much about second life, just found out about it this past may. But I am totaly willing to learn, and I think the idea is great!

So ... how do we start? A Second Life forum topic on this site to see if we have anybody knowledgable enough to create a slurl to a particular spot in SL? I have to say, being a librarian, I've mostly spent time on InfoIsland and Cybrary City, and would need to do some research to see how one actually organizes an event in Second Life. Glad to hear you think it's a great idea! Jill
Geeks rule! and I like the gender/star trek analogy!

I used to take my son to a Warhammer store where he painted his little army for hours on end with the geek patrol there. I was absolutely fascinated with these people...so different than the people I saw in downtown Grand Rapids every day.
It was like walking into the humanification of The Muppet Show. They wanted nothing to do with me, in my after work suit and BCBG heels. However, they lavished attention on the interesting 12-year-old who soaked in every aspect of their being.
My son is now studying 3D animation and wants to be a designer. I have to give credit to "the geeks" in his life. They changed me too. Sometimes I go to the grocery store in Highland Park without pulling my hair back, and with little make-up. I even wear flip flops occassionally and no lipstick. Isn't that the bomb?

I've been out-geeked! Geek knowledge with a female spin. Crap. How can I compete with that?
Good job. I hope to see you in the next round.
You are likely a geek among geeks here. But, I know what you mean about the red shirts. I am just now embracing my inner geek. I always hid that geek flag, scared to be weird. But no more. I was breast-fed to episodes of star trek. My mom is a web librarian, former computer programmer, sci-fi lover, and basically a bonafide geek matron. She showed me the internet and I rebelled, but now I can't imagine life without it. She showed me how to get an avitar on Second Life, she showed me how to podcast and set up a blog. So far, my mom's been my ticket into geek culture. But she's 63. There's got to be stuff she misses. Now, I make regular pilgrammages to the nearest Mac store to recharge my geek engines and commune with others like me. I watch heroes on-line, I've bought the entire Battlestar Galactica catalogue. As a media geek, sci-fi lover who hasn't yet gotten into anime, manga, comic books, etc. I would really love to hear your show. I want to learn more about my, um, culture. What's out there? What's new? What's cool? And who's making it? I live in a rural state so a show like this would be really important to me.
This is one of my favorite submissions. You are very articulate, passionate and "real." I give you lots of stars.

I'm a geeky chick, too. I think there are a lot more of us in the closet, hiding behind designer handbags and impractical shoes. All they need is a leader--you could be it!!!

Keep on rockin' in the free world.
Hell, even if it doesn't go far with radio, you've gotta start a podcast on it. I have suppressed my Forgotten Realms/Elfquest geekdom in favor of drama geek and mom geek, but someday hope to return with my future teen geek at my side ;-D If you broadcast/podcast, I will listen!

Yeah! Geek Power! I would listen to it. And I would fully enjoy my parents' reactions when they hear it, as they listen to the station often. XD
I was holding off before I listened, the way I wait to read my newest graphic novel or to watch that last episode of BG. I'd seen your name everywhere. I knew I would love this. And I do. Great concept. Great metaphor. I will wear a red shirt next time I visit the Comic Shop. You rule.

I not only love this idea, but I fully endorse it! This is great because that sub-culture gets a bad rap anyways. I would love a show that delves in to and enlightens the masses about the wonderment that is geek culture. Before I moved out to Los Angeles where everything is mad expensive, I used to be very active with my comic collection. Alas, my hobby has been put on hold until I can properly afford it. I am also a Nintendo fan-boy and a member of the loyal EarthBound 'cult'. That last sentence alone outs me as one of the geekiest in the 'gamer' culture.
Check out my submission if you like:

I very much like the idea of having a female spin on these topics. Would you cross pollinate with other "geek" issues, such as the open source movement? There are some geeks who really aren't into fiction, but more into computers or science.
http://lipstickaliens.libsyn.com/ is a little bit more science fiction TV-oriented.
My personal area lies more in the fiction, but of course the "real world" geek issues and subjects apply as well. I know several people I could have some on and talk about things like the open source movement. Anything that deals with Geek Culture, I'm open for it!

Great point of view, good pacing and writing, my wife is looking for her red shirt right now!
I know how you feel. I'm a geek girl as well, and I feel really uncomftorble when I pull out a gaming magazene to look at and everyone stairs at me. I think It's about time someone stood up for us, go you! I'll be sending this to all my friends to get them to vote for you as well.
Much love from fellow geek girl and ranger, good luck!
Now this is great! Even though I'm not much of an RPG/Anime fella anymore, I would still listen to this show, especially if the actual program was as warm and geeky as this! I love the idea for a program about geek gals!
Great work, 5 star!

Being a er.."older" Woman who still enjoys Anime, Comic Books, the occasional RPG, Cosplaying and "Old School" Sci-Fi and Fantasy series , I think this is a great idea.
Well done!
This was a good one. I filed it in my "Oh, really!" box. You have a way of unveiling a hidden perspective that pulled me into something I wouldn't expect to have an interest in.

It is not success to succeed in being somethng you're not.
Give it up for the girl geeks!
Unrelated to your clip, I was looking at your web site. I know you're into the anime, but you do list Justice League as well. I can't believe you don't have Kevin Conroy on your voice actors list!
If I were given the opportunity to meet any celebrity, only Jon Stewart would have a chance of beating out Kevin Conroy.
Yes, BTAS is fantastic. I look forward to watching your website for updates.
Did you ever see the movie Chain of Love with Linda Fiorentino and Kevin Conroy? It's a fairly straightforward AIDS morality tale, but if you're a Kevin fan, I think it's absolutely worth watching.
I could handle seeing him in more similar roles ...
At the moment I only have anime up there, but I plan to have an "American Animation every library should have" page as well.
My VA list is far from done, I havent had time recently to go in and update, but Kevin Conroy is high on my list of VA's.
I'm an old school BTAS fan. And I love Justice League. Big fan of Phil Lamar too...between green lantern and samauri jacc....:)
