Well We're Just Gonna Have To Find Out
I’ve been told I’m known for my voice and my laugh. I think real “hostiness” is being just who you are. No airs, no affected voice, just who you are. That’s what I do. It still surprises me, though, when strangers recognize my voice. Check out my show at www.wyce.org Fridays 3-6PM ET.
Wendy is the heart & soul of public radio in W. Michigan....I wish you the best!!

You didn't tell them that you used to bring me coffee & call constantly supporting my morning show... back when ONE gal did 5 days of it as a volunteer.
Simply put, I wouldn't be where I am without all who supported me. Big thanks!
Take care Jeff.

You have great chops. In a way this contest reminds me of when I went down to Texas in August of 2005, to be with Cindy Sheehan and the other protesters. Never know where it'll lead, but it's fun being part of the community.
Oh, I put a blog out for networking with sustainability folks.

Thanks for listening, Dave. You can listen again today, 3-6ET. www.wyce.org

i wish you the best of luck in the contest wendy! i started listening to your show about 3 years ago and you are, hands down, the best personality on wyce. you know that cari and i would eagerly anticipate your show every friday and you would graciously endure our phone and email requests. you've been around the block and are comfortable and confident in your programming and would be a great edition to public radio on a larger scale. even though i am a couple states away now, i still tune into your show every chance i get.
blessings, mimi :-)
Glad we got the chance to build our friendship because of WYCE too.
Congrats on the boatloads of things you have earned, Womanhouse!

Thanks for listening!

Just voted for you and wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your show and WYCE. I've been listening to your station at work on the internet since 2002 and at home since 2005 when I got my Mac and DSL. I think WYCE is the best radio station in the country, if not on the planet. In the last 5 years I've bought more music after having heard it on your station than I have from any of the local stations here in the Baltimore/D.C. market.
Good luck with the voting although I hope it wouldn't mean you permanently leaving WYCE.

I'm listening to your show right now...I dig your fearless programming! Great stuff!
Thanks for the response. Hope you can join me today on the radio!

Great job Wendy!
I think the thing to remember while striving for perfection it that the programers at WYCE are all volunteers! not professional radio people.. that is what really what makes them and Wendy so incredible. They give of their lives because they love music and community. As one of the artists lucky enough to be on their playlist, I'm blown away by their dedication both to the music and to constant growth as radio personalities.

Wouldn't you volunteer for it too?

Great line Drew.
We are community at WYCE! Thanks for your support. Drew's songs are big hits with our listeners. Evidently he's good at clarifying things too. Smile. See you at the grocery store soon.

Sounds like you love radio and a good time. Good job and best of luck to you.

The gift for gab and ability and willingness to laugh loud and often, love it. You've got me one upped on professional experience, which is something I hope to change.
Good luck to you and I hope you will listen and give feedback on my post at:

I vow to, every moment of every day I get in this Mortal Opportunity... and most likely again next round, when I get there. (not PRTQ)
I checked out your myspace, loved the advert & the Bowie remake. Tee hee. Mine is low-tech www.myspace.com/ivawit
Your comment made my day, woman.

I too, volunteer at a community radio station, KKFI 89.3 in Kansas City. There are only three paid staff at the moment and everything else is done by volunteers. There's nothing quite like it, is there? Great place to pay your dues and learn the ropes.
That's what I'm looking for. Great laugh. Great delivery. You are definately easy on the ear. Thanks for being part of this. It was a pleasure to hear your stuff.

C'mon, I'm a 44 yr old adult. I don't enter contests, yet here I am. Laugh, laugh I say, and I do, as often as possible.
That's related to one of my show ideas. Laughing. Laughing on the radio. I'm certain I can find the way to make it NPR acceptable.
Grinning, -W.

Wendy has always been a favorite of mine at WYCE, her warm tone and upbeat attitude make it a pleasure to listen to her show. She exemplifes what public radio is about, intelligent, real, and willing to just be who she is. She has great taste in music as well... so say us Willeys anyway
Thanks for the support you Willey Folk. It is amazing to think the first time I played your music on WYCE was some 17 years ago. Whew. I hope everyone is well & we see each other soon.
So glad to hear from you old friends,
-W.

The smokey voice is not to my taste, the laugh is horribly, gratingly artificial. I find myself turned off by someone narcissistic enough to quote herself.
The music and the artists who make it is what matters, not the programmer. Your focus is too intensely on yourself.
Regarding your show, you have decent taste in music, but I'd prefer to know more about the music and artists and less about the programmer.
There's always room to grow, and I hope you seriously consider my comments. You have the potential for real talent.
Thank goodness for your honesty. It seems some people never will understand the value of a little constructive encouragement. I am tired of this being such a lovefest, when a few helpful comments are much more beneficial in the long run to the individual. But, I'm repeating myself over and over on this site with the same message... And no one seems to be listening! Ain't that some irony!
On the Pier, I would love to hear your two cents on my piece:
First, thanks for taking the time. I wish more people would comment. IMHO there are no stupid questions. Ever. Thank you, as well, for honest input. That is what it takes to communicate, honesty. It’s clear to me that we see things differently. I will agree, though, I haven’t been so easy to laugh since my Mother died unexpectedly 6 months ago. However, I quit smoking 16 days ago so I can actually laugh easier, when I do.
You’re right; at WYCE it is the music & the artists that really matter. Our library is an amazing thing. The artists we play get no or little public exposure as national, local or regional artists. That’s how we built WYCE, with those artists in mind. I say “we built” because I was at many, if not all, of the meetings that helped determine what WYCE would be. With some 3,300 volunteer hours invested to date, I can make that claim.
I let my connection with rhythm guide me and use my ear to choose tracks. Programming for me is fluid. I go with what I hear and let the music speak for itself. Smile. I feel blessed to be able to program, especially this format. Makes for very happy ears!
I agree there’s always room to grow. I found that allowing who I am to show through, with my flaws, on-air and off, is actually what has helped me to connect with so many others through the years. So I continue my personal quest to just be, on-air and off. Smile.
Until Again, -W.

I wanted to like this more, but considering you have radio experience, I couldn't get past the marginal audio quality, and especially the popping p's. As far as I'm concerned, a prerequisite would be to show that you know good audio quality when you hear it -- and how to fix it when you don't.
