I'm Curious
Wow you do have chutzpah - or you're just nuts. But hey, who's keeping track? Loved your entry. Really interesting and you've got a great voice.
Thanks for your incredibly supportive comment on mine.

Hey Sally,
I live in Charlotte, about 90 minutes from Hickory. It's a beautiful part of the country -- welcome to it! I think it's great how involved you've been in the community on this site -- you're an active voice in the blogs and comments, and a great voice of encouragement as well. We're down to the wire here... It's been incredible fun, a process of discovery.
Rootin' for ya,
Kalle
Excellent in all regards! I'm sorry I didn't listen sooner (been moving), but I'm sure you'll fare well. Very smooth, engaging and insightful. Thank you!
Nicely read Sallyfranz. Nice voice too. Thanks for your memories, which brought back some of my own. MR
I loved it all! The imagery is fanTABulous! :o)
Sincerely,

Thanks!
I could listen to that voice all day long. Funny, bright and even a tad thought provoking. When it comes to chutzpah you've got it. When it comes to courage you wrote the book. I think it takes courage to dare, chutzpah to stand your ground and talent to know which causes matter. From your profile and this piece I'd say you've got the magical combination. Five BRIGHT stars for you.
MK
yes i think you have a lot of talent and great work!!!!
Sally - you have a great radio voice, I could listen to you talk all day. Of course you don't want to talk all day, you'd get hoarse. But theoretically, if you were to, say, get a radio talk show and I knew what station was broadcasting it, and the time....well, I'd show up too.
Yep, you're funny, insightful and a total original. I'd say a (five) star is born!
Sally,
Nice voice, compelling story, only I wish I hadn't been eating breakfast while I listened. I was going to define chutzpah for you in terms of patricide, matricide, and court trials, but I see that someone already beat me to it.
Good luck, I would love to hear more from you!
From Dictionary.com regarding "Curious" -
1. eager to learn or know; inquisitive.
2. prying; meddlesome.
3. arousing or exciting speculation, interest, or attention through being inexplicable or highly unusual; odd; strange: a curious sort of person; a curious scene.
4. Archaic.
a. made or prepared skillfully.
b. done with painstaking accuracy or attention to detail: a curious inquiry.
c. careful; fastidious.
d. marked by intricacy or subtlety.
But probably most appropriate is the synonyms part 3-
3. singular, novel, rare.
Great voice, Sally, and the arc of your piece was exactly right. Loved it. Thanks for a great entry.
That story!! And, you have a really nice voice. And a nice personality. I feel like I know you!
I know Ho-ho-kus- It was on the bus route I took when I lived in NYC and rode to visit my aunt in Paramus.
I also have family in Phila.. Good for you that you got all the way out to the west coast! :)

I can't believe I've entered!

There is a joke among motivational speakers...You can lift any of my stuff for speeches, but I'll sue you if you put it in your book as your own material. ;0)
Lift anything you want just add:
*Sallyfranz.com* at the end.
Now I'll have to go back and see what I can score from your entry ;0)

Great entry. It was highly entertaining. Your voice immediately grabbed me, but your story kept me listening. Gross about the nose-bleed/spit sucking-up. I didn't have a brother, obviously.
ez
and very-well presented, both in terms of the writing and presentation. I hope to hear more of you.
Please consider my entry, "One Thing ...". From what I've
been told, it should make you smile (or better).

I loved this! Are we nuts? I am also willing to stand up to anything. I'm like a half lab, half pit bull terrier at times.
I was dating this very tiny man at one point. We were walking down Michigan Avenue and were crossing the street at Goethe, when this little red Ferrari turned the corner and missed me by an inch. My boyfriend slapped the back of his car, and WHOA...the man stopped his car right in the middle of the turn, and we knew it wouldn't be good.
What emerged from the tiny clown car was what appeared to be a seven foot cowboy, complete with 10 gallon hat. He walked toward us and said, "Hey! Why'd ya hit my car %$#%^!" Understand that my boyfriend was already dragging me away down the street. I broke free and ran back to the man and proceeded to yell something like this, "You almost HIT me, you #$#%^^, I can't $#@^^$%$ belive you'd do that, you @#@$%%. Did you SEE us there? Or were you to focused on your #$**^% little car?" I was in his face. He looked at my boyfriend and said, "You'd better do something about this $#@#$% $#@#$% or I'll do something to you." Needless to say, I was immediately dragged kicking and screaming down the street. It was an ugly moment in my history as a human being. I'm not proud, but I know that I would have taken this guy, given the chance.
WHY did I study dance in Indonesia and not some fabulous Southeast Asian martial arts form? I've always fantasized about being David to some horrid Goliath. Oh well. I guess I missed my chance. Upon reflection though, I wish the guy HAD squashed the boyfriend. Now, that would have been swell.

I loved your entry. You are a host after my own heart. I was also the little big kid. The nose and spit thing was just gross! All I ever did was to stick strate pins through the ends of my fingers and chase people screaming "I'm gonna scratch you.
I would really like you to listen to my entry and read my bio.

Hi Sally
Great audition. Great voice, well-timed. You said a lot in two minutes at a relatively slow pace. And thanks for listening to my audition and commenting.
I don't think you are the garden variety sociopath. You have too much emotion in your voice to qualify! Sorry! I think you're just lucky to have those weak veins in your nose!! Did you by chance see the recent version of Lady Killers? Great scene at the beginning. A store attendant quickly places a finger up each nostril of a man attempting to rob him!!. As the would be robber protests, the man continues to push his fingers farther up the nostrils!
I am too old to let people push me around anymore!! So I'm building up my courage, my chutzpah, my imaginary karate moves to fight back whenever necessary. But it sounds like you were tired of it a long time ago. It's taken me time to catch up!! Whether it's courage or chutzpah, it is RISKY and good for you that you're willing to take those risks!! I'm rehearsing taking those risks and I'm in favor of all of us fighting back and not rolling over.
Vern
Thanks for all the great feedback!
I am wondering if the idea of spitting blood is grosser because I was a girl or because it's just gross.
The reason I ask is that I'm reading Bill Bryson's book "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid" and in the first couple of chapters he mentions, gob drooling with blood in it, knuckling a kid (nuggies), road kill, belching and farting.
I think it's hysterical. But what can you expect from a kid from Ho-ho-kus?
Thanks again for all your comments, and for seeing past the blood into my heart.
Sally

Wow.
I think of chutzpah as cojones, sauce, sass, and you've got it in spades. Way to go and good luck!

*A first kiss, a dental emergency, identifying the Big Man on Campus and talking back to Punky Brewster.
Hillarious story! Websters says that courage is: the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery
And chutzpa is: unmitigated effrontery or impudence; gall; audacity; nerve
Baby, sounds like chutzpa to me! And God love you for it!
Best of luck and thanks for the review.

I actually just went back to re-listen to your entry and realized I hadn't left a comment the first time. I have no idea why!
I loved your entry--and I can totally relate to your story. ;-)
