Intro to Mur

This entry has excerpts from two of my essays that appeared on my podcast, Geek Fu Action Grip: http://www.geekfuactiongrip.com, or the podcast Dragon Page Wingin' It: http://www.michaelandevo.com.

Did you know you share a name with a rock group that even wrote a song about you?

Mur Lafferty is one of my favorite podcasters -- and I listen to a LOT of podcasts. Her humor and charm won me over immediately, and she has a fantastic voice for broadcasting. Definitely recommended!

Mur's got an awesome voice that is excellent for the radio (and podcasting). Mur gets my vote to become the new voice on public radio.

Mur has done great work on her own in podcasting,
providing content that is personal and appealing
to a wide base. She would be an excellent addition
to NPR.

Great selections for your entry Mur. My hope that at least a couple of the great pod-casters out there make their mark on this contest, I believe you have a great chance to be one of those.

Keep writing and we'll keep listening!

Hi Mur,

Jared says you're cool. Jared's never wrong about these things. Therefore, I came and listened. Jared's never EVER wrong about these things. Oh that man from Planet X...

Cheers,
Josie

Enjoyed the two minutes. Great voice and production quality..."Geek" shows are always a plus in my book. I've already enjoyed hearing your podcasts and listening to you on "Slice". Keep up the good work.

Check me out if you'd like...

I love how you add a touch of snark at the end of this, regarding your previously being rejected by NPR. Very cool.

Wish I could say something a touch more erudite, but zombies ate my brains.

Mur is one of the reasons why I get up in the morning. Okay, it's actually the cats jumping on me. But, she is one of the reasons why I walk to work as often as I can, rather than drive. The twenty-minute walk each way gives me enough time to listen to an entire episode of Geek Fu Action Grip, and it is often an episode that I have been eagerly awaiting.

Been listening to Geek-Fu and ISBW for quite awhile now.

Big inspiration on talented writer/podcaster. Good luck oh Mighty One.

Mur is my hero. Period. She is who inspired me to give podcasting a try. She has such a creative mind, and I love her podcasts and books. LOVE.

Clearly, the votes go here.

I have been listening to Mur since Geek Fu ep 1. She was my gateway podcast to the Michael and Evo family of podcasts (http://farpointmedia.net), which led to Firefly, which led to more podcasts.

As for Mur herself, she is an excellent writer. I feel her essays and stories are creative and, and being a geek myself, I can relate to them more than other writing.

Geek fu action grip is one of the strangest (in the best possible way) podioshows I have ever listened to. There is somthing about the 'geekness' that Mur just seems to radiate (again, in the best possible way)that keeps one coming back again and again to hear more.
Take a listen.

That was awesome. I would love to hear more. Good vocal tone and wonderful suject matter!

(No, really. She's got the tiara!)

I've been listening to Geek Fu Action Grip for years now, and am constantly amazed at Mur's knack for telling The Truth in ways that no one's ever thought about. I would deeply love to hear what she could do with world-dominating (or at least radio-dominating) power.

I've been listening to Mur for about a year now. She's always interesting and cogent. Her podcasts are the highlight of my listening list. She would be a tremendous asset to Public Radio, on the scale of "An American Life".

I've listened to Mur's Geek Fu from 1, and she's got a great voice and writing ability.

I've been listening to Mur for a while now, though not as long as some. I can never get tired of her voice, it's so soothing. At the dentist I play loop tracks of her speaking instead of using novocaine.

Submitted by mightymur on May 14, 2007 - 6:18am.

If I had known I had that kind of power, I'd charge for it! Not a lot, though, only half of what you'd pay for a shot of Novocaine. :)

Awesome commentary! Hurray for the Geeks!

Submitted by painkillerthepigeon on May 14, 2007 - 12:18am.

Listen to hers: she's talking 'bout the Nerds. Nerds and Geeks are like cousins! She's right, too, I've seen a physicist rip a biologist's arm off in a fight, although I think Geeks and Nerds are slighty better adjusted to their differences. Not usually any blood.

This is exactly what people expect to hear on NPR! Well done, wish I could hear the whole thing.

Excellently!

Mur is genuine, endearing, and entertaining all that the same time. But, best of all, she's a geek!

Mur - your entry shows a voice, in all senses of the word, that encompasses what this talent quest is about. NPR would be done a grand disservice if you were not to win this. Brilliant stuff!

Submitted by ChristianaEllis on May 13, 2007 - 9:37pm.

She is one of the most intelligent, well-spoken, interesting and funny women I have ever known and I think this contest is right up her alley.

Oh, and I liked her two-minute thingy here too. ;)

I've heard Mur in ever increasing frequency since discovering podcasting and quickly realized how naturally talented she is. She's comfortable whether speaking in a professional, casual or um, Wingin' It! manner. There's no such thing as too much Mur.

Mur's a true talent - and if you don't choose her, then SO bad for you!
