Don't Quit Your Day Job! (TM)--where we give tips on how to be effective in the workplace and answer listeners' questions

Submitted by dontquityourdayjob on May 13, 2007 - 9:28pm. ::

Think of “Car Talk” for the workplace. We are two experts in management communication who consult with and train scores of senior execs, managers, and entry-level workers in how to be effective at work. We’ll give tips on a specific topic, then answer listeners calls. dontquityourdayjob.net

I appreciate all the tips, I have to tell you that I know them all and applied most of them at my workplace. I have other concerns though, there are plenty people who don't understand their importance and that makes my work useless sometimes. I am sure I am not the only one in this situation, there are plenty people complaining about this, I think we need a new approach in handling management.

One of my email/IM pet peeves is the abbreviations. People don't know how to write in complete sentences any more.

the way you interact with the listener and each other with so much authenticity even in such a small amount of time. I'd like to hear it when you aren't quite so rushed!

I love it! It's vaguely like Dilbert for the radio. I can't wait to listen to it while I'm stuck in traffic. I anticipate howling with laughter!

Great team and great show! Informative and entertaining. This one is a winner. Joann Baney is my role model.

Informative . . . witty . . . Just the right blend of humor and info.

I can imagine lots of great call-in questions -- both of the "off-the-wall" variety, as well as "serious" topics. These two seem to be ready to handle either with panache!

These hosts SHOULD quit their day jobs and start doing this show full-time on Public Radio!

I would have liked to hear the show about incompetent bosses. I have had more than a few. Why is it that incompetent people get promoted to management? One of the mysteries of the world. Anyway, this would be a really helpful topic. I'd listen. Actually, I'd like it better than Car Talk (ride a bike!).

I think its funny that there's a show about NOT quitting your day job, and another show ABOUT quitting your day job :)
It takes all kinds!
You two have a very natural rapport, nice and chatty but still focused. An excellent submission!
Good luck to you! Try mine!

I can tell from the brief clip this will be a fun, witty and informative program. By the way, is it okay to force your children to befriend the offspring of important potential clients? Access to MySpace hangs in the balance.

Won't this be fun? A place to ask those questions that you'd be embarrassed to ask a co-worker and that would probably get a half-baked answer from a friend. I think the e-mail advice is spot on...remember what Eliot Spitzer said (quoting at first an early 20th century Boston politician) -- "Never write when you can speak, never speak when you can nod, never nod when you can wink...and never put anything in an e-mail!"

I would podcast this show religiously!

Submitted by marinkaj on May 16, 2007 - 4:20pm.

I love the idea for this show! The hosts seem very well qualified, have a great rapport and are fun to listen to. I can only imagine the entertainment (and cringe) value callers' questions and workplace predicaments will add each week.

fantastic. i think everyone will find this entertaining and helpful. topics can span office, home and work/life balance. email topic could go on for some time. topic of communications, inside organizations and from organizations to the outside world are critical to professional and organizational success. personalities were upbeat, confident, fun and witty. i would be a regular listener and would likely use content in my classes on management.
