Radio magic equals vocal timbre, a trusted source, music, message, variety, and public service.

I can see you doing well with this endeavor. Excellent voice and spot on philosophy about broadcasting. Well Done!

I definitely like your voice. Your ethusiasm and vision are really engaging.

In both senses of the term in public radio :) Really nice voice and you project such comfort in your speaking. I also am right there with you on your ideas for music programming. There's room for everyone!

It's the least we can do, right? :-)

I didn't think it was possible to explain what makes a music show great in two minutes, but - BANG! That's the most eloquent description I've ever heard - and with an incredible voice and delivery (your experience really shows through). I hate to admit it, but I'm a little jealous (insert smiley face here)...

Very well done - I dare say you're what they're looking for in "hostiness;" great production value, too - which isn't supposed to matter, but it certainly never hurts...

Thanks Art! Incredibly kind of you. I genuinely care about radio as an art and feel as though those few of us who truly do (including you and everyone involved in this contest) have a responsibility to champion it. That may sound corny, but I stand by it. :-)

You've put some solid thought into what makes for effective programming. What's next?

I have listened to over 200 of these things so far, and have found only about 8 true standouts, with actual potential to hit the finals... I think yours is one of them.

... for your kind words and for all of the diligent listening you are doing. Now that is public service at its best :-).

I am also of the opinion that music is key to a successful radio program. You have a great voice, and your personality shines in this segment. I hope to hear more from you in the future, ma'am.

Give me a listen, if you like.

Hi, Kate.

Love this idea and your audio aesthetic -- I'm all for it! Tell me a little more about the music. Conjur up some flow-y combinations to wet our collective whistle, if you would...

Happy to. Shoot me an e-mail at Kate@pumpaudio.com and I will happily send you CDs.

Thanks!

That's it. That's what I want a music host(ess) to be. Not that I want to be told what to like; I like to be led to things I might like. A trusted filter is key. Good work.

Submitted by Kate B on May 14, 2007 - 7:29pm.

You're absolutely right, it is so key. And as corny as this may sound, that is what makes the magic happen. It's funny, that mysterious sort of bond that happens between host and listener. I'm utterly spellbound by it, on either end.

What a lovely group of people. Yet another testament to the power of radio. Best to you!

It sounds like you have a well thought out recipe for a great music show. I'd certainly listen to it. Great job so far, and good luck in the rest of this thing!

I'd love to hear that be done... so I gave you five stars... well that and the fact that you sound oh so hosty.

Steve

Ultimately the paradoxes of life make fools of us all. So if we would be wise we should study life's paradoxes and confront our abject foolishness head on.

p.s. Usually I give low marks to the entries that just tell about what they can do, actions speak louder than words (outside of the Philosophy Cafe).

Hi Steve, thanks for that. To answer your question, yes, I really can do all that and have for the past 12 years at XM satellite radio and a handful of legendary, heritage Triple-a radio stations around the country. I'm really excited about the new direction music is taking thanks in part to the Internet and to iPods... those things are very much driving this new breed of listening but it seems like radio in general is quite slow to catch up to it. Public radio, however is poised to keep on going strong, is my belief. So why not branch out to amazing music as well, not just classical or jazz. Anyways, thanks for your reply. Very best,

Kate

Would love to talk more, should be all set Re: contact settings...
PS, didn't mean to insinuate in anyway that classical or jazz isn't amazing because of course I absolutely love that music and it is nothing short of the bedrock of rock. :-)
