Crossworld: Episode 1
My radio show would look at where worlds collide. There are numerous possibilities for topics - anything from peanut butter and jelly to Gaza Strip. This first episode I focused on the world inside of me in relation to the world I live in and how these relationships affect me.
A lovely piece and your voice is perfectly matched to the mood. Great entry!
nice work. looking forward to more episodes! bryn
Don't go. Come meet the rest of the Chicago Quest troop on Thursday. Look for the "Hello, Chicago!" link for the details. I can't navigate there at the moment, and...well, I haven't written the details down yet. It's dinner and "Wait, Wait, Don't tell me!" night. I just don't remember where dinner is.
Now, put on your rollerblades, grab your chess pieces, and head down to "The Lakeshore."

Your Worlds' Words
...Are liquid poetry birds in
flight lofting into
multiversal skies
dusk dawn and oh, sweet night!
Sound that bell from the solitary
promentory jutting land to lake
feel how sweetly down your cheek like rain are the pirouettes of bats
...The lake laps mouthfuls of wet grit
and as you know
someday that crossworld just might become
a palette of spiral glass
I beam love you wild sapling!
Anya, you really sound great. I think it was a wonderful entry as so many people in Chicago are transplants and feel the same way - I do anyway. If you win, I will totally start listening to the radio more often!!!

Anya... this is such a perfect medium for you! I loved the piece.
I've always thought radio is a kin to poetry. You've brought those two things together at this crossroad.
My spine is still tingling.

You filled me with longing for the peace of the lake and the serenity of endless rows of corn. I grew up in West Michigan and whenever I needed grounding, I would retreat to the dunes of a deserted county park overlooking the lake (where I had spent many mischevious winter weekends when it was a Boy Scout camp). I loved my nine years in Iowa, but still I there were times when I longed for the lake. Even now, though I live at the mouth of the Detroit River and all all Lake Michigan's waters flow within my view, I miss the calming rhythms of the western shore.

“It is not success to succeed at being something you are not.”
I felt as though I was a fly on the wall, listening in to a late-night conversation you were having with your best friend. I was compelled to continue listening, but in this case I can't decide if that means that you're hosty. I definitely think you have something to offer, but maybe it's as a contributor to a program rather than as its host. I'm sure you'll be involved in some way, and it will be interesting to hear what you come up with!
Great concept--and I think your voice is very conversational and easy to listen to. I would love to hear more about how you plan to develop this idea!

Keep on rockin' in the free world.
Colliding worlds is a great idea for a show. If you decide against radio, though, you'd make a great actress.
not sure if it was a performance, or honest naked reflection... but it was hosty.

It falls to the enlightened, and the intelligent and the sane to take responsibility for the deluded or doltish or insane.
Anya,
I like the idea of worlds colliding . . . and your use of landscape as a way to reference identity. The dramatic, artsy flair is engaging and is true to your voice. The stream of consciousness format makes sense given the two minute time frame; however, by keeping it so broad you take a risk that the reviewers may not get a good feel for what the show will be about.
Good luck!
I assume you wrote a script and practiced reading it. I like how extemporaneous you sounded. Good luck.
Anya- beautiful words expressed with passion. Here's hoping you find everything you're looking for-
Mark
Your passion really comes through in your voice.
Good luck!

very cool. i'm happy with our own great lake here, it only lacks anya. i was claustraphobic enough in LA and atlanta but enjoy it while you're there. you should meet us halfway in indiana for earth first CAFTA highway thing. it's some monumental stuff next month.
you are right about the lake giving us our grounding. At least it does the same for me.
Laugh, Giggle, Comment, but most importantly click a few stars!!!!
Your piece was so good - it is the only piece I have listened to that made me feel insecure about my entry. And here you are on my page!! :O Ha!! Thanks, man . . .
anya,
your voice pulled my soul out of my body. i don't think i've ever seen or felt so intensely just by listening to someone speak...ever!
i just traveled cross-country to seattle this week, took a trip to portland for the first time, and i have to say that i had an emotional response to your words. u must have been talking to me!
i love public radio. this is why.
u, anya, are talented, unique, and i thank you for sharing!!! more from her please!!!
Anya has a great deal of talent and a voice that pulls you into her world. I definitely believe that she should be the voice for the program. Anya will go far in this world and deserves the chance to get there.
She is great.
Julie
What a great, honest piece. Difficult to throw yourself out there, but you went ahead and did it. Congrats, and good luck!
