Dan Klass hates to pitch himself

I am a stay-at-home dad, who is too busy wrangling kids to come up with a super-clever audio audition. I hate to audition. That's probably why I'm a failing Hollywood actor. Darn. Well, thanks for listening.

I love this man. Love what he does, and how he does it. And WHY he does it. Like most great artists, he has the ability to make what he's doing sound so effortless... but, as anyone who's ever tried knows, it's anything but. Funny, insightful, wry, and delightfully related.

Some station(s) somewhere should be airing everything he does. Now. Because people want and need to hear what he has to say!

Despite your feelings of alienation and uncertainty, you are very entertaining. I hope you become the breadwinner and your wife gets to take a break, if she wants to. But in either case, your children are the real winners here -- they have you. I bet they love hanging out with you. Good luck with all you do.

great delivery. Those years podcasting have served you well. What I like about the style of podcasts is that people just talk - there's none of that "broadcast speak"....it's so much more comfortable to listen to. Like radio without the suit and tie. This is what I hope the future of radio sounds like.

Nice job, and good luck!

Dan, I love your delivery. You pause in some spots and it just makes the previous word you uttered sink down into my head where its meaning can blossom. For instance, when you talked about how "insanely" you love your kids, you pause and I was really touched by the meaning of that word. This is an outstanding piece. I wonder why you don't have more comments. It was genuine, you have a great voice, it was written well, its topic is interesting, and you have experience producing a podcast already. It sounds like you're a complete package. Nice work. I really hope to hear more from you in the (near) future.

Thanks, Elizabeth. It's always great to hear when someone "gets" the pauses.

In the very near future I plan to get more involved in PRX, in hopes of regularly providing content to public radio. I am going to start gearing my podcast content more towards that end. I'd love it if you could take a listen when the time comes and let me know what you think, from an insider's POV.

I think podcasters and public radio need each other...

Thanks again for your comments. I really liked your piece. One of my biggest regrets is never interviewing my grandfather before he passed. All those great stories become the folk lore of a family, and we need to preserve our personal history. I won't make the same mistake with my parents...

Dan, I think you did a horrible job of doing a lousy audition. With your luck, you'll win this thing and have to do some steady work. Sorry, man.

I gave you ...

  • One star for NOT using the term "hostiness" in your submission

  • One star for referencing Action Dads®, my new line of action figures sporting laundry baskets with foldable pink dresses and kung-fu action grip (coming soon: Trophy Wives®)

  • One star for quirky, personable stutters

  • One star for the mental image of a foam box on your head to reduce fuselage noise

  • One star for NOT being interviewed by Michael Geoghegan

  • and One star for staying klassy.

In case you're counting, I had to vote twice. Congrats, thank you, goodnight.

Great parent = great host.

Dan, I am told you are also one of the most naturally funniest persons this friend of mine knows... If you are have as funny as you are real, then I don't want to be drinking milk when you are being funny.... that's for sure. But you've been funny around your kids so you know what that visual is about.
