He was just a small town boy...

Okay so I kinda butchered that Journey lyric, not to digress. I'm just a small town kid let loose in a big city. I've grown so much because of it, and have discovered things about myself that I never knew, or would have found out had I stayed at home. This is my story. Sort of.

I really thought I'd commented on this before, but I must be halucinating. It's all this staying up late listening to people. Anyway, I think you have a great personality and a very unique voice/perspective.

I went through the El Lay experience when *I* was your age. Starving actor, you know - lost 100 lbs in six months. Talk about girth/nogirth. Teehee.

You bring to mind all the cultural shocks I went through so many years ago. Good job! Good luck!

We need more rednecks on the radio.
It was very insightful to hear your experience of living in LA.
I wrote a redneck joke for you.

You might be a redneck in LA if you ask for directions to "the rodeo drive".

I like the reflection and insights in this piece. Your voice and presentation is real and appealling - you got me to listen to what you were saying because I was interested. I was interested in your experience.

So what's your new job in radio?

I mean this as a compliment, especially since, unlike Tom's now-affected shtick (he's the motel 6 guy for those who don't know), yours still sounds fresh and real. Would like to hear more from you -- including more of those voices and weird acts of creativity -- and I reckon that's pretty much the definition of success in this exercise.

You have an honest vulnerability, mixed with accessibility, that is very appealing in a radio talent (IMO). Too many radio folks (in general, not necessarily here) sound like they're aiming to be radio rock stars. Give me the outsiders, like me, that can't help but be themselves. That's what I want to hear.

I would *love* to hear more of you on the air, Chris. Good luck to you. :)

It was my grandparents. My parents kinda dropped the ball a couple of years in. Let's just say that they didn't quite have their priorities sorted.

And I thank my grandparents all the time. :)

Rednecks are everywhere, from Seattle to Miami. There's no escaping us! Although I must admit, I'm only redneck in association and mentality, not by practice. I don't listen to country, I wear rather loose fitting pants, hate belt buckles larger than my first two knuckles, and would rather spend my free time playing Nintendo than going hunting.

I do loves me some flyfishing though!

Ah, I remember when I was a young person in radio...actually I don't remember a lot of it which, I assume, is b/c I was having a great time.
Question: Is a Super VIP line a VIP line with a cape? Just wondering.

Oh, wait, here's the part where I am supposed to put my user thingy so people will listen to my audio. AW DAMN! I don't know what my user thingy is.

BTW- we don't even have Kinda Sorta VIP lines in Alaska. But if we did- you can bet your sweet bippy I wouldn't be allowed in them either.
Peace,

Never lose your creativity, Chris, and keep the voices. Your Montana background is endlessly fascinating to those of us who do not count ourselves among the Big Sky State's 1 million.
Good luck!

I really enjoyed your story, especially the contrasting reasons why there's nothing to do on a Friday night in Montana and LA. You've got a nice voice, and you're very personable and relatable - down to earth, creative, and sometimes a bit goofy: THAT is someone I'd definitely want to hang out with, or at least do so vicariously by listening to the radio. I think you'd make a GREAT host! I hope you do well!

I found myself smiling at your entry - it wasn't exactly confessional, but it was definitely honest and real and demonstrated hostiness all the way up to the rafters. Don't lose your laid-back quality to the stress of life in LA!

When you talked about your redneck past, of course what came to mind is "Your Redneck Past" by Ben Folds Five. You're as thoughtful a host as Ben Folds is a songwriter. How's this for a future vision - you hosting a show, him as your guest, and both of you comparing notes on your redneck pasts.

Well, how cool is that to find a listener and fan through this competition. When are you going to call in? And now that I know ... when are you going to do your own segment for us? Thousands of Black Rock Citizens wanna hear about your adventures of a Urban Cowboy in this Nevada town!!!

Love your voice. Love your submission! It was sooo well produced! But your problem is you're trying to make it with the 310 and all I have to say is !@#% those guys! Come hang out with me in the good ol'Eight-One-Eight. It's a lie when they say it sucks. It can't be toooo bad...I mean...like y'know? I *live* there and you know what they say "There aint no place like home!"

So click your heels and cross yer fingers, Girthy, and good luck! Hope to see ya on the playa if not before.
