Obsession with perfection

I am lacking fancy sounds and cool audio clips. But if you get the message then I will win on a personal level.

I agree with the opinions in your audio. It's always refreshing to hear your own opinions reflected back so my vote might be biased. Would have given you 5 rather than 4 stars because something is missing and I can't put my finger on it.

That is easy. Just vote and comment on the clips. It is pretty easy or at least I have a lucky random button. Almost all of the clips are good.

Your overall story line was not cohesive. Maybe give numerous examples of "Obsession with perfection". You wavered too much in the focus of this story. Is this about obsession, Iraq, or the difficulty in developing a story line? Keep going!! Good luck.

You almost lost me with the setup...I really didn't want to hear another story about not being able to come up with a story...and then you did it! Good, thoughtful work. Thanks!

Your piece is very thoughtful, and we enjoyed listening! Thank you for your comments.

And I like the comparison of a personal obsession and our national one.

Thanks for commenting on my entry. I really enjoyed yours. Your voice has a nice tone and my only piece of constructive criticism is to enunciate a little bit more. But, again, I really enjoyed it - - I just wanted to leave something more than just a "hey - great job!".

Best of luck!!
Christopher.

For someone who didn't know what to say, you were quite good!

Torch bearers for democracy made me laugh, though. I immediately thought ' Ya mean standard bearers for overthrowing governments' because I'm a bit obsessed with Operation Ajax... ;)

Good luck to you, Brendan.

It is so cool to know that people have listened to my clip. It is even cooler to know it made them think of something. Thank you for the feedback!

Brendan - Loved the idea of perfection. You have a really pleasant voice too. Thanks!!

I wouldn't worry too much about the technical aspects. What you need is passion and content. You have both.

It's effective, how you work in your point about perfectionism almost by accident. It caught me by surprise (and made me listen).

As for your delivery, still waters run deep?

This is a great entry, but you waste the whole first minute babbling about the production aspects, which the contest sponsors already said they don't care about... You could have spent the whole time presenting a more nuanced argument about perfection in America, using more examples, and revealing yourself. I DO think you have an insightful and engaging manner, with a dose of humor and some seriousness, too. This is a good solid piece, only wish I could have heard more original thought, instead of yet another meta-piece on the ardors of the assignment.

You are probably right, I should have put more effort into it. The problem is that this is the first time I have ever exposed myself to the world for judgement on my thoughts and ideas.

So if I was trepid while tackeling an emotional subject, then you read exactly how far I was willing to go in 2 minutes.

It is a tough subject that a vast majority of the public chooses to tune out, sometimes you have to get people to listen and think, and not force them to react emotionaly.

and there is no need to justify that. As a journalist, when I've had a tough assignment, my mentors have always told me to make it personal. here you've done just that. I appreciate hearing what caused you to procrasitnate and what it took for you to muster the courage to just do it. Thanks for sharing and I do hope you get an opporunity with NPR, hey you've taken the first and most important step...you shared your voice.
Brendan, best of luck to you on this quest!

just talk, just be who you are. An ironic choice of topic, aren't we all a little obsessed with perfection -- of our clip, of our presentation -- at the moment?
