The Whole Truth

An essay about being a whole, authentic person in every way, good/bad, wrong/right, cool or not. This is a program I recorded for my daily Beliefnet.com e-newsletter with 1.3 million subscribers and listeners. I've received really positive comments.

Norris Chumley has an energizing yet soothing voice, and his message is inspiring. He would fit well on a public radio station. I would tune in!

Norris, Your lovely segment inspires me to be whole. I hope you get a show as I would like nothing more than to listen to your pearls of wisdom.

I listen to A LOT of radio. Your subject matter grabbed me from moment one. I think you've got the 'hostiness' factor going on here!

I listen to public radio all the time and I would like to hear more of this. If this is a talk show, I know people would call in and share their stories. A welcome relief from political discussion. Great voice!

I love his voice, so soothing and it makes you want to listen to his advise. We need this type of show to help us become whole.

I appreciate the honesty with which you deal with the subject. When the modern woman strives to be a "perfect" model of health, sexuality and motherhood, it often causes them to neglect the inner person, and they become depressed, feel hopeless or end up abusing drugs or alcohol. I think a talk show which would encourage people to cultivate the inner person, without neglecting the physical health would be very welcome.

"be held back by any habits"

Are you kidding? I was held back by habits for 12 years. Catholic grammar school and high school.

Good stuff.

I believe persistence is the road to a silver lining. And I'm willing to risk all for a worthy pursuit. I've come to realize that to me, not giving up on a dream in the face of diversity is an accomplishment I can be proud of--even if I haven't moved from surviving to thriving with a story you'd hear about on Oprah. Being disabled the last three years gave me a chance to get an eye-opening view of the workings of U.S. healthcare delivery. My anger turned to passion for change through a forum to improve doctor/patient communication. Check out http://www.publicradioquest.com/audio/user/6076

I am encouraged by your entry, you have a handle on the truth, and that is one thing that is a virtue to be obsessed with as we need more people helping others to tell the truth.

Peace and Blessings,

Sincerely,

Gary

I think a generic self-help themed show would be awesome. The smooth tone and warm voice are a perfect match. I appreciate the slower pace because it gives me a chance to reflect and listen simultaneously, but maybe it would be better to make use of pauses rather than talking slowly because it's failry lethargic, as if you're broadcasting from your death bed.

I agree with a previous comment- You are very talented, and have a wonderful voice. The subject matter is good-great ideas. But I'm not sure NPR is the right outlet for you.

Nice entry. I love the advice to remember to consult a doctor at the end. You have an honest, earnest and relaxed vocal personality.

You do have a good radio voice, but the content might be going into different directions. I'm not sure you fit this category, but you do have a lot of talent.

i listened twice to listen well. I could print out your words for a little reminder

I got a little lost in the delivery and the abstractions. I could use a little help in understanding it with a little more emphasis on the key words and a perhaps a quick vivid concrete example to anchor the abstractions.

I guess, for good or bad, hosting is a performance as much as truth or advice. Great to know you have a good following.
