Once Upon a Time called Right Now

This is a promo spot for a show I am interesting in making. The show would feature telling of traditional tales and connecting stories to modern life from a variety of views/voices. Example: Connecting "Cinderella" to different cultures, media, real life experiences. Thanks for listening!

Great idea! I would definitely listen - I wish you'd used up both your minutes!

The teaser was intriguing!

And topical, what with that Gregory Maguire guy and "Wicked" blowing up and what-may-you. I'd be very interested to try an episode or two and see if I can be hooked, you have a really nice voice and obviously some editing skills.
Good luck to you, hope to hear more!

How many of us have one or more to share? Old time stories passed up through the generations, happening even today the same story with new people in new places with the same themes that run back through history. I like it...

Peace and Blessings,

Sincerely,

Gary

I love the idea, but thought that the sound effects and sound quality could use some help. It also would have been great to have a short, entertaining story that could've served as an example.

As soon as I submitted the clip, I started thinking about how I could do it differently. I even tried to figure out how to do it over. I wish we could have one do-over. Thanks for the ideas, I'll keep them in mind.

sounds interesting, and very original material . . . but not sure exactly how you plan to make the fairytale fit into the "right now" - what is the modern day story of a carriage turning into a pumpkin at midnight? Still, I like the over-arching theme of hearing the tales from other cultures!

Thanks for the comments, appleditty!
I guess the right now part of the Cinderella story would be to find people who have "fairy god parents" that have helped them to transform their potential into reality (not so fairy tale, I guess).

The whole magical transformation idea is found in lots of stories, so there is a lot of material to work with.

Hey Ceramisister...I think we might be s-o-u-l sisters separated at birth by an evil wet nurse. We're really royal princesses, next in line to rule the throne of our magical kingdom together!

Thanks for the vote of confidence on my submission!

Have you read the book "Touch Magic" by Jane Yolen? Do it now!

Good luck with this, sister. I want to hear your idea come to life with the magic of true love's kiss!

May you live happily ever after!

I think your sound effects really show off your humorous side. Your voice and personality seem to counterpoint that humor with a wry, understated quality. Nice!

I really want to focus on folktales, fairytales and stories from around the world, connecting them to modern life. So, starting with something that people are quasi-familiar with and then tying into other stories with the same motif, and other people's personal experience.

I was thinking about how "The Ugly Duckling" is interpreted in Hollywood movies, for example, the whole "diamond in the rough" situation where you stick glasses and bushy hair on an otherwise attractive actress and then "make her over" and she gets noticed only to discover that her new friends just like her newly revealed cuteness, not the "real" her...it happens over and over again (The Princess Diaries, She's all that, etc.). This is just one direction this particular story could be taken.

In the format I was thinking of, we would actually tell the story, dramatically and then have reactions to it from a variety of views, even considering books, kid lit or otherwise, that are based on the story.

The idea is wonderful and I think would work as people want simliar stories to reach. However, this is where this might become verbatim to This American Life. Make sure its distinguish and this is your own product. Idea is great, let's see the complete product.

Interesting idea. All families have stories they tell and embellish. This could be a good forum.

Good Luck.

Cheers!

As an avid story-lover this would be something I would tune it to! Check out my entry for a similar if different take on folk and myth -- #241. And if you have some great audio stories, send them my way. Id love to feature them on my show Radio Drama Revival! (And why doesnt this form let me use punctuation?)

Thanks Fred for the good feelings! I have been a little low since getting Izzie's comment. I am a novice storyteller, but I get the chance to practice a lot because I teach and I use stories with my kids as a jumping off point for art lessons (I teach art). Stories are also a treat after a satisfying work period. I love to see them get so engrossed that they can't help but participate. I'll seriously see if I can work up some stories for you!

Interesting idea, but need to hear more of you to judge hostiness. Remember, the contest is looking for hosts before progam ideas.

I think that I misunderstood the objective. I would love the chance to give "More Me". The other idea that I had was to introduce myself in the form of an audio dating service. Is there any way that this is possible?
