This entry will give people an idea of who I am, what I do, and why I do it. I'd like to have a show that focuses on the creative process. I want to talk to famous and unknown artists to find out how they go about making their art and why.

Engaging entry.Enjoyed your storytelling. My husband also plays Capoeira Angola.

Enjoyed your entry, especially the glimpses into your character: passion tea, upcoming fatherhood, nephews, television shows, enjoying your co-workers, and a screenplay about... did I get this right(?)... three Starbucks employees wanting to kill their least-favorite customer?

Very memorable submission.

Thanks,
Robert

Thanks for making this Talent Quest work.

I like the way the way you presented this. You get a real sense of who you are and what you're about. I'd tune in. Great work!

Great voice, great use of sound, and great story. Hope you get to shoot that film OK. The whole package is very impressive.

Nice job interweaving interviews with your dialogues. I like that collage effect. I wish you had put an interview in with one of your upcoming musicians so we could get a feel for what the content would be. . . i know you'd get some good stories though. Everyone has a different way to which they discovered, committed to, and perform their music.

What a pleasure to listen to. Nice job placing yourself in all your varying scenarios using sound. Would definitely listen to your show!

I echo the comments that this is a well-done piece, your different voices come together well and you would sound great on my Saturday morning!
Good luck!

I'd love to hear this kind of piece on "This American Life" but after he runs out of his own life and family, what would he sound like interviewing a stranger? I like his voice and would really love to hear what he could do a little farther from his own nest. Intriguing!

Submitted by jomki on May 9, 2007 - 9:06pm.

I liked how you had clips of a more "natural" sounding you, like when you were interviewing your wife, as opposed to the "radio" you which was a down to business and nice to hear.

Submitted by molotman on May 9, 2007 - 8:56pm.

Hi David,

I heard your piece once before I registered (and couldn't vote) and now that I've registered to upload my piece I came across yours again--I definitely think it is very memorable for your "voice" (as opposed to your literal voice, which is also nice but not what I mean). Obviously your production skills are top-notch. I agree with some of the comments about the content, but you showcased yourself and I was interested all the way through.

Hey David,

I kinda do a podcast about what you're aiming for, but it's specific to the Burning Man culture.

On Memorial Day weekend, I'm gonna be at Burning Flipside in Austin, the biggest regional event outside of the Burn itself.

Any chance we can meet up?

Oh, and btw...I really liked this submission. I thought it got a little cramped for time at the end...like there was still a lot you wanted to say. But over all, it totally moved me. You captured many beautiful moments in under 120 seconds and even made me a bit verklempt.

Pass me a tissue and congratulations!

Very "this american life" with the way you weave your story. Which is a good thing. Art rocks, and we need more stories about art, and how to survive as a creative type and pay bills.

Good luck to you.

Nice work, man. The stories are compelling, the beats are danceable. you've got something good going on.

This is excellent. Really.

This has a unique freshness to it and I really like it. The background music does get distracting, but that's more of a minor problem and that can be fixed. You have the Bob Edwards in you and you care about these stories. Keep it up.

Stellar work, David. You brought the package. Smooth, deep voice. Great personality with just a hint of quirky. 9 spaces left.

Submitted by tamarakeith on April 23, 2007 - 5:07pm.

Excellent job. Way to give us a sense of who you are. Your wife sounded totally cute, and not really interested in the whole being on the radio thing. In terms of production, I enjoy the timing, the fast, almost overlapping pace. And, I would pay money to see your movie about the Starbucks employees.

Submitted by Steve Berry on April 21, 2007 - 1:09pm.

So I thought I would enter this contest because I could be really good on the radio and millions of people (or maybe three) would listen to me but I keep hearing what other people submit and I realize I don't have a chance.

David, I enjoyed this. You have a good sound. Good luck and congratulations on the baby!

Cheers!

I like the way you tell your stories. But all the background sounds can be distracting at times. Good luck.

I would listen to this. This is radio.

Submitted by moijo on April 17, 2007 - 9:18pm.

...thank goodness this round is about PERSONALITY and not CONTENT! The idea here is that we come up with something that gets our "hostiness" across, and I think David did a great job of that.

By the way- I thought the content was great, too!

Submitted by mymagoogle on April 17, 2007 - 8:58pm.

I like the voice quality and the recording quality (nice background sounds), but the content is meh. By about 30 seconds, and this didn't happen, and this didn't happen, and this didn't happen ... just not very interesting to me.

Submitted by commonphilosopher on April 17, 2007 - 4:39pm.

I really liked it and I have a really good feeling for who you are. And that's why I feel ok being hard on you. I'm not sure that the concept for your show is as unique as your sound is. We've got another person proposing the same show, basically and she sounds great too. And going off of that other comment, I'm not sure that Terri Gross's show would work with Ira Glass's sound because the former works because it's interesting and the latter works because it's emotional. Gross is journalism, Glass is entertainment. I would have entered your style show into the Talk category and your sound into the Entertainment category. Anyways, it was great to hear this and I want to hear more of what your show would be like and hopefully you overcome what I think might be an issue.

I agree with all previous comments. This piece makes me want to hear more.

I really like this: I learned about you, could tell you have a creative ear...and like all good hosts have a respect for producing, for sound, for pacing.

I'm intrigued by your journey--life, career, movie scripting, your varied moves and impending fatherhood.

You told a story (actually many stories) with multiple voices.

This was a blast to listen to!

Submitted by Nannette D. O. on April 16, 2007 - 1:50pm.

intriguing and fun.

so far, the entries that have interested me the most suggest a producer's talents...
I'm wondering whether as big time host you'd actually have time to do such good production...
more Ira Glass than Terry Gross

I'm sure we'll hear more from you one way or the other...
