There's more to it than just Bob Marley, people...

An excerpt from my radio program on KOOP Radio in Austin, Texas. Each week I walk through the Jamaican musical timeline from 1960 - 1980, spending 30 minutes apiece on the "big four" of that era: jazz-influenced ska, soulful R&B tinged rocksteady, classic reggae, and sound-effects laden dub.

This sounds like a great show, Art--too bad I can't get it here in KC. Like your style and you've got a cool voice for spinning this kind of music, and your tour guidiness really comes through here. I'm not very familiar with this kind of music, and would tune in for the experience.

Great work, and best of luck to you too!

Steve -

thanks for the comments! Actually, KOOP streams our programming real time (no archiving yet, but hopefully soon); you can link to it at:

Good luck to us all - now all we can do is wait...

Great clip, Art. Always the consummate professional with the killer radio voice and the even more killer library of music and knowledge. Today Austin, tomorrow, the world!

You shouldn't be feeling anything less than confident and excited. You have a great voice. True, you don't have the lawyer thing going for you, but I don't think that counts in this Quest ;) Nice job!

And thanks so much for listening to my entry!

Wonderful job, Art! I am so glad that others are getting the chance to hear one of KOOP's most talented music show hosts (and a really great guy to boot!)

You are so smooth, so knowledgeable and always such a gentleman...

You've got my vote!

Cheers,
Khotan

I recommend that everyone tunes in to KOOP 91.7FM for Art's show, "Jamaican Gold" to hear the best of reggae music. KOOP streams live on the web as well.

This is the one show that I know I can get my reggae fix and get turned on to tunes I have never heard before.

You rock, Art. Or, uhum. Peace out man!

If it's of any concern, just wanted to mention this for the record... The bed music used in this submission is "The Beachcomber" by a band named The Notables; and yes, I have permission to use it in this situation. If the screening team in particular has any questions, please feel free to contact me...

Thanks for the comments (including one from Mike Tyson, apparently?) - keep 'em coming, and wish me luck!

Art has a great style, but his true Art (pun intended) is his play list(s)... stuff you have probably never heard, but wish you had, years ago...

Rock on!

Art Baker's style is impetuous. His defense is impregnable, and he's just ferocious. He wants your heart. He wants to eat your children.
