Missing the Boat

This is the intro/commentary I wrote to set up AK's "Missing the Boat" show. The program aired 4/7/2007. I was the first host of the program but then switched to the techie side of the mic when I started to look at my hosting paychecks and cry.

I am glad you made the boat on the Quest. Great entry.

35 mile by bush plane was the only way in or out...landing on water is such a thrill - it's good to be alive!

I enjoyed listening to you and loved how your personal story tied into the theme of your show. Great segue. Well done!

I love the natural quality of your delivery. There's nothing "studied" about it. You sound intelligent, direct and engaged.

Yeah, I have to get hammered in order to get on a plane as well. LOL

Give me a listen if you like.

I think you have a great voice, an interesting perspective, and a knack for comedy.

But, my criticism entails some of your phrasing. The pieces are supposed to be for a general audience. That audience could include families with children listening together. I'd hate to have to hear this as a parent: "Mommy, what's meth?"

Submitted by Girthy_McOrangestein on May 19, 2007 - 1:45pm.

In fact, if my kid (I don't have one yet, but hypothetically speeking.) asked me what Meth was, I'd totally tell them no problem.

I was unfortunate to get a second hand experience with that nasty drug because my mother developed a rather nasty problem with it. It was one of the many things that tore my family apart and forced me to grow up far too soon. However, should I have the choice to change it, would I? Not a chance.

I'd rather my kid grow up knowing about the world around them, than have them in the dark. They'll be able to make more educated decisions. That way, they'll be able to handle themselves better in certain situations.

Thanks for the feedback Kalle. That is certainly something I will think about in the future. Thanks for taking the time to listen. Much appreciated!
Take care,
Shelly

Tourists, Oil and Public Radio- ah! The life blood of Alaska. I am the current Technical Operations Manager for the Alaska Public Radio Network (sounds much fancier than it actually is...) On a previous episode of my life I was a morning show host for a CHR/Pop format in Fairbanks, AK. When I moved to Anchorage I took on the job as the first host for AK from APRN. I moved to engineering for the $$$- babies to feed and all... but I thought I would throw my hat into the ring for fun. All comments are welcome!
