This audio piece looks at how Stevie Ray Vaughan came into the music consciousness of the country and how he influenced my life as a musician.

Hey, I'm from Austin, too...great topic, I think there's some depth here for you to explore.

Good luck!

Wonderful topic, and well presented. I was fortunate to get to see SRV live several times. I saw him at Alpine Valley exactly a year before he died, and in Kalamazoo, Michigan two days before.

I came home from work that night, and there was my husband, holding our screaming infant and crying his eyes out. He said, "I was badly beaten up as a kid once, and I didn't cry, but Stevie Ray Vaughn died today, and I feel like the bottom has fallen out of my heart." He cried for three days. Seventeen years later, it is still hard to believe.

One of my greatest memories was being at a Clapton concert and suddenly seeing that green and white guitar appear on stage. There was SRV, playing a set with his best friend, just for the fun of it. That's who he was. What a wonderful tribute that you have chosen him as an icon in your life. Nice work.

I am so with you there kiethn!
Seeing Elvis Costello on Tom Snyder late one summer night in the late 70's changed this farm girl forever!
I totally understand what that life changing moment was like for you. I became a musician as a result of a moment like that too.
I hope you make it here. You speak that secret language only a musician would understand.
Oh- and anyone who plays a Strat has an automatic in with me!

I cried the day Stevie died.
Still get goose bumps listening to "Couldn't Stand the Weather". Think I'll go listen to it right now.

This was a great way to tell us about yourself and tell a good story. I really enjoyed it and your voice sounds good.

Keith, This is a thoughtful, well written, interesting piece, and you have a great voice to listen to. As the clock ticks towards the end of this contest, I'm trying to listen to entries that have no comments right now, and add comments where necessary to get somebody else to listen to the hidden gems of the Public Radio Talent Quest. I think this is one of those gems. Jill
