Valarie Edwards ... Public Radio's New Voice of Reason

Submitted by Vee on May 14, 2007 - 7:22pm. ::

My entry is for a new show called The Voice of Reason. Unlike shows on other stations that stake positions to the extreme left and extreme right, The Voice of Reason is about about compromise. It's no "goody-goody" show. It's real dialogue, a conversation. No diatribe. No spewing.

I go to College with your daughter and she told me that you were in this Talent Quest. I can see now where she gets her enthusiasm and "spunk" as one of your other supporters put it.

I just wanted to extend my support to you and my fellow sister! Good luck, can't wait to hear the results!

best friends with your daughter in Elementary school and when she told me you entered this contest I knew I had to show my support.

Your clip was great. Just know that you have support, even in unexpected places!

it was the last day to vote and had been meaning to comment on your piece.

I love your voice, it is demanding and bold yet in a way that is very soft and personable. I can definitely see you having your own talk show and am surprised you don't already.

Regardless, this world needs a show like this and I hope you win!! Good luck!

I have listened to a lot and as some were good and some made me skip right over, BUT you were the first person that made me stop what I was doing to listen to their ENTIRE 2 minutes. I was captivated the whole way through.

JUDGES : WE HAVE A WINNER .. or at least someone to give the other contestants a run for their money...

GOOD LUCK FROM A LOCAL CALI GIRL, AND PRESENT U OF HAWAII GRAD!

I have listened to a lot of the others and none of them grabbed me the way you did. You not only demanded my attention and pulled me in but you now have me looking for me.

When you win, you have an avid listener. Best to you!

I liked how your voice commanded me to listen. It cuts through without sounding shrill and is perfectly suited to your topic. Demanding answers with your reasoned questions is a creative way to encourage introspection and conversation. Well done.

...for more hard work ! You've made it sound so effortless, although you've put in so much time. (Listening to over 200 entrants a night? I'm impressed.)

Now, for your recording sample and idea, excellent ! I'll bet we see you in the finals.

Best to you, and blessings too,

I like what you have done here, many of us see a need to allow that reasoned voice to be heard. This provides a platform for growth, the kind of growth that we all seek to know the truth that is supressed by outside forces.

It certainly would be great if we could tie up the loose ends.

Good Luck

Peace and Blessings,

Sincerely,

Gary

California's state prison systen houses over 170,000 inmates in facilities built to hold only 100,000. It is the third largest prison system in the world. It is also a political and economic nightmare, not to mention a resounding failure at rehabilitation. The prison system has a budget that will soon exceed that of California's public universities, and this has resulted in a hotbed of public discussion.

But where's the Voice of Reason? Hopefully it will soon be heard regularly on NPR.

I love the concept! What a great platform to bring many concerns to public light, and who knows, this type of discussion may actual yield resolutions. Your voice is real and inviting! Hope to hear your show in SF!

Those Golden Gates are missing you!

The Beatles did a song ... The Long and Winding Road. It has taken us a while to find our path and our passion, but we've both embraced our future -- two handed -- and now we're off and running. Howz that for dreams coming true? Valarie Edwards

Well-played, Val! I was interviewing Juan Williams just the other day (he was Commencement speaker at a local university) and he was saying so many of the things I've heard you say about some modern black civil rights leaders like Al Sharpton. I think the show sounds great-- touching on current issues, but not from any one certain niche-- it's not a show just for news junkies who read 200 blogs a day, but not a show that would stick to superficial topics either. You're asking the questions that real people ask their friends whose opinions they value: Why all the political drama? Who benefits from all the posturing? Why not some real compromise and progress? Those kind of questions-- not insider minutia, but not generalities either. And, wonder of wonders for an issues show-- no spewing, no yelling, no empty rhetoric, NO TALKING POINTS! A solid swing down the middle-- that completely connects.

Submitted by Vee on May 16, 2007 - 2:52pm.

Much love to all of you in California too!
I hate to ask ... could you send some Mrs. See's peppermints, a bagle or two from Noah's, coffee from Peets, a cup full of water off Stinson Beach (preferably at high tide), and a litle bit of that Sonoma breeze? Thanks for your trust in my talent and abilities. Warmest regards to you and your family!
