Hey, I'm glad you made it to the top! This entry is so creative and different -- discovering it just made me smile. It's catchy and now it's stuck in my head :-).

Ok, I'd pay money to see you play that. That was great. I am so glad I finally made it to your entry! What a really cool angle to take this in. So very creative. And so very musical. And your lyrics - hilarious. I love the end when you talk. The double track of your voice. I think this is really, really, exactly why they are having this quest. The baby boomers will retire soon. There will be jobs for all of us in the near future. And I, for one, hope you get one. A good job, maybe even Garrison Keilor's job. But on a cooler show. Anyway, this is flippin fantastic and I'm giving you five fat stars.

This approach could have bombed, but you pulled it off. Creative, clever, and entertaining.

Good luck.

That's like, sacrilegious!

And really funny.

Something tells me the old Norwegian bachelor farmer would probably dig it, too...

I dig it. I really dig it. It went in a totally opposite direction: Nice intro music ... wait ... it's not stopping ... funny lyrics ... huh ... you mean the whole thing's a song? Cool! It's revealing and irreverent and sticks it to the man and ... who knows? Maybe this is hostiness. Maybe this is the new direction. And why not a singing host? GK sings all the time (... and I cringe when he does ...) There's so much talk now about how teens and 20-somethings are amazingly comfortable with broadcasting themselves, posting everything online. Ethnicity is blurred. Gender is blurred. Sexual orientation is blurred. It's all good. So ... maybe the next generation of hosts will take GK's thing a step further: Boundaries schmoundaries. It will be completely normal for a host to sing (even lyrics that go "eeeeeeeeeee") and rap and beat-box as much as he or she introduces, talks, interviews ... who knows? I hope the judges hear this and think, "Hmmm ... we wonder ..." Thanks for a great entry - patrick

Love the skewering of public radio attitudes and personalities. Good Luck!

Okay, that got my first 5 star vote. I totally relate to the "mixed feelings" part, the titular line is a riot, and it's an honest and funny look at the situation. All the higher-ups at NPR should hear it, just incase they need a reminder that nothing is permanent, and it's important to find new talent.

This was great. Good job, Mr. Newman!

that a good host should really be able to sing.
Not that I can. You can, though. (Toucan?) Wonderfully done. Can you write songs about anything?

Charming and funny, loved the little sign-off at the end.

I agree, the categories are a bit tricky. I've just been not looking at them at all when I listen, kind of how I listen to the actual radio...

Is that he's trying something totally different! I gave it highest marks just because, after hours of NPRalike newsreaders, its nice to be surprised by a title like this and then have it be a cool little lo-fi pop tart!
People should have more fun. And yes, I mean EVEN on NPR!

Yes, execution is a bit rough but the song was very funny. I think you should be under entertainment though instead of talk. Great job.

Thanks for your comments. I look forward to listening to your entry. Just to clear things up - I recognize that this spot is more entertainment than talk, but if I was given a chance to create my own show it would be more talk than entertainment. Hence my decision to list is as talk.

I think this could have been done better, but its a cool little number! And extra points for doing something different, for sure.
I have to add, as an aside, that I have always HATED PHC. I know, I know, its blasphemy...
But I certainly don't want the guy dead!
Good luck! Try mine!
