I'd Get More Out of Talking to Myself

Adulthood isn't all it's cracked up to be. Case in point - adult conversations. Valuable insights or Twilight Zone exchanges? And what about truth? Does being polite mean meaninglessness? Let's, umm, discuss!

I think you should host a show. I like your delivery and you had some interesting points to make. Even your rhetorical question sounded natural. Usually I hayate them! (That wasn't a misspelling, just an exaggeration.) So why don't you start a conversation yourself? Now! I command you.
Nice job,

few shows allow for good banter anymore, it's nice when a host can have a full conversation ready with topic, point and retort for the audience.

Great delivery, and thought provoking. I live in Highland Park, and when I moved here from Grand Rapids, Michigan, I was stunned to realize that virtually all of the people who make this city churn from its underbelly are from Mexico.

I have never seen such dedicated, hard-working, family-oriented people in my life. Recently, I was thrilled to meet my sixteen-year-old son's new girlfriend, "Maria." Amazing girl with an incredible family. She adds richness to our lives.

I like your honest and conversational delivery style. Your ideas are poignant and they could be the kernel for a larger discussion on the nature of interpersonal interaction in a diverse and non-traditional population. For example the "Hey," "I'm fine thanks," incident strikes a chord with most people since they have probably experienced that at some point or another, on either end of the exchange. It seems like people are on autopilot when greeting one another, so that they don't have to continually come up with something original to say everytime they see someone (which is probably a type of art form in itself that is also probably one of the habits of highly effective people, but I wouldn't know since I am not highly effective.) In more traditional and homogeneous societies it seems that there are standard greetings and pleasentries which everyone adheres to. This, maybe, saves brain space for more important topics of discussion, like the weather.

It might be interesting to research the history of the American greeting. I imagine it would be a bit Darwinian in that new greetings and new pop culture would compete with older greetings and stuff. But I digress. Great entry! I especially liked the "Waaaaaahhhh??!?!?!"

I don't think there's anything wrong with saying what you mean and sticking to it, provided it comes from an actual honest place and not some desire to hurt or marginalize. Right? I personally think that the world has turned backwards into its tolerance since the 70s, when racial issues were at least far more out in the open. These days it seems that even challenging the stereotypes themselves can get you branded a racist. Mix that up with people who actually ARE racist and you get Political Correctness, the most horrible thing ever to happen to intelligent conversation in the last 20 years. Sigh...
Great piece. Certainly got ME thinking!

Because in that case they probably wouldn't like said power dynamics pointed out... or are oblivious to it. I don't think that kind of observation (noticing that all of the people that are serving people are brown, and all the people that are being served are white) is off base at all.

Anyhow, good topics.
