A Bit O' Exposition

A truly 11th hour "hat in the ring" maneuver; some info about me and what I did.

Submitted by mikewmhw on June 2, 2007 - 9:14am.

It's been a great boost reading comments from friends and fellow entrants, as well as those who have registered to vote for their favorites.

It's been mentioned time and again, but there is a wellspring of talented, engaging and unique participants. I wish all the finalists the very best (whomever they may be) and look forward to hearing what comes next.

Thanks

Mike Wright

That was wonderful! I had these pictures in my mind of you going around the neighborhood. Nice clip, well produced and the delivery was impeccable (sp?).
Keep up the great work.

Great pacing and timbre, and some nice personal history. You're clearly very comfortable on-mic, and it pays off. :)

Yes, I too was around seven when I had my first brush with the "Mike." Yes, Mike with the Mike. Summers the Wright cousins swung open the door of dual Mikes.
My personal accounts are only the earliest of years and are nowhere near the extent that Michael has grown and cultivated his talent and originality.
Cousin Michael and the portable recorder. We would hide in the most obscure places and record family conversations while making noises and recording their reactions.
Still to this day there are bits that we had created that will live on forever in Mentor history. "Say It Again!" is still imitated by the Mentor boys. It also started my love of voice and Improvisation Acting. When I finally got my hands on my own recorder I started the first "Punked" type episodes. Victims were the Longmeadow Kids and the Mentor family. Hence, the nick name I received from my brothers "Punk" and the "Spy" stuck.
I would love to hear your tapes. I think mine were "Accidentally" thrown away. I hope to find at least one in my parent’s storage. Dunt dunt duh….
I've since then had a few versions on video. Hehehe.
Cheers and good luck. You sound great as always!
Thanks Mike!

You've been away from the game? Doesn't sound like you've lost anything off your fastball! Very professional with that real NPR vibe. Excellent work.

You have a wonderfully confident radio voice, obviously practiced. Good luck to you!

Great to hear you on here.. here here!

You sound great as always - but you forgot to share your RUBBER voice.

Listen folks - this guy right here delivering this simple demo has a secret talent! He can sound like Dana Carvey, Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, Lorenzo Music, Ricardo Maltoban and Rodney Dangerfield ALL AT THE SAME TIME...

ok... c'ept not really. But he can sound like them individually.

Best of luck to you old buddy! Glad to see you here.

Do you know why? Because of voices like yours delivering the call letters. This is WIYY (that's pronounced double-u eye why why for all you K-staters.) Ahhh. Brings me right back. Very smooth.

I was the senior music and theater critic for WCAL in the '80s. It's not been absorbed into the MPR system. Sigh.

Your radio experience really shines through here - great voice, humor, and intelligence. Would you bring back Bohemia After Dark? You definitely should!

Very tough to give up radio once it’s in your blood. Your voice is a natural for it, best of luck!

I wanted to ask you, you're currently working in a job that combines internet, research and entertainment together? And this isn't "doing it for you"? I don't understand, I'm guessing that you'd be having a great time. Or is it just the "mike time" (no pun intended) that you are craving???

I wish my job was more than what it is at the moment. What started as research and PR has morphed over six years into glorified data entry with a dab of Cool Whip.

Thanks for the insight. Nice entry, by the way.
