This was well and truly edited, but its got all the same things I can't stand about morning radio shows, too fast-paced, rampant over-use of soundFX...
Well constructed but turned me off a little. Good luck to you, nonetheless, you clearly have skills!

Sounded just like every other "anthony norman" I've ever heard. Right down to the two first names.

I'm thinking we're not quite ready for belching SFX on Public Radio!

If you cannot spell what makes you think you can host? " Two minutes to long"? It is Two Minutes TOO Long. The latter is correct...

... he meant something along the lines of, "two minutes to long for days gone by when folks were far more polite than to beat one over the head about silly typos in an AUDIO context."

Ahem.

Lots of hostiness here, but it's out of context for public radio I think.

When my college graduation was approaching and I still didn't have a job lined up, I went to the public radio station. The Program Director gave me a trial and told me I was too commercial for public radio. So I went and got a job in commercial radio.

Dude, you're too commercial for public radio.

Anthony,

The "commercial" in Janean's comment refers to the tone of your piece, rather than to any specific part of its content. You were successful in making your entry sound tight and professional, and it far exceeds anything I could put together; but it sounds as if you were using, say, a morning show on a popular music station for a model. The feel of public radio is usually more deliberate, usually less antic, almost always less jumpy. If you listen to a few episodes of NPR's Morning Edition, you'll hear the difference.

I don't think Janean meant the word "commercial" as a put down; rather, that radio personality is citing personal experience to help you find your right place in a large and competitive media industry. And that place may change as you acquire more of your own experience. Listen to lots of types of radio shows; and meanwhile, keep doing what you do.

Good luck--

What is Dog Star? I've been getting a few insults do to the "commercial" sound to my entry, so I assume this is another blast?
