The Evening Dish with Joplin James

I'm here, I'm queer, now get over it!
Yes, this is me, Joplin James, bringing you The Evening Dish; the main course in all entertainment news and trash! I can be rude, crude and sometimes even live up to those gay sterotypes. So sit back, pull up and chair, and let's sling some celebrity trash!

I for one am tired of these gay people on VH1 who tear celebrities apart because of the dress they decided to wear to an awards show. I'm not homophobic, but I hate those high-pitched, prissy voices saying, "Oh my God!!! Did Tara Reid just roll out of bed with that on!?!" I hate the snobbery more than the level of gayness, you could say.

I didn't hear any of that snobbery or any sort of high elitistness from you. I'm not sure I agree with your opinion about American Idol this year, but I thought you were very funny and I admire your honesty.

And I appreciate your comment and taking time to listen to me...I just created this "mock" format...we aren't being judged on our shows, even though some people think we are...I am truly a very down-to-Eart, peaceful guy...not one of the those Hollywood gay flamers...sure I have strong opinions on many issues...if ya read through some of the other comments, I've kind of said on here what kind of format I'd like...more upbeat, let's learn about each other sort of thing...I called it the Diversity Dish, instead of the evening...Again, thanks for the review!

I have to admit I was a little aprehensive when I read your intro. I thought you were going to be an "in your face" personality. Not at all. You came off quite well.

Oh, and please don't tell anyone, but I took my 13 year old daughter (who also cried when Elliot Yamin was booted) to see Taylor Hicks. He's better live than on AI.

Good Luck!

I liked your enthusiasm, and how you demonstrated yourself as a knowledgeable AI fan with references to last season... it might have been cool to hear some deeper commentary, like comparing Elliot Yamin to some of this season's male contestants, but I guess that was part of the 58 minutes of the show we missed - I suppose that's a personal preference that ties hostiness to a sense of individual perspective, but your voice and energy really came through!

Yeah, 2 minutes isn't enough time to get really in depth about this season...I had a huge 2 page sheet written out with my thought on each of this season's contestans but of course due to time issues I had to cut it down. Maybe round two? :)

I can't seem to figure out how to rerecord my entry over...I wanted to change the format of my "show" yet I can't seem to find a way to delete my current entry. Thanks for your kind comments! MAY YOUR DAY BE AS SPECIAL AS YOU ARE...Peace, Love and Happiness Always to You and Yours!

As I go through these entries I am seeing quite a few that represent the gay community. That certainly seems to send a message that gay listeners would like to see themselves reflected more in the offerings of public radio. I think Joplin has a fresh, honest voice, although I'd like to hear him enunciate more clearly. I, like some other commentators, was relieved that he really did not talk trash -- I think there's enough trash out there on commercial radio, we don't need it on public radio!

I am going to scrap my initial entry and rerecord this evening a new show entitled, "The Diversity Dish."
After taking in the comments I've received I realzied that I have an opportunity to create a show that can be the positive voice and not one that deals with entertainment trash. I truly appreciate your comments and take them to heart...MAY YOUR DAY BE AS SPECIAL AS YOU ARE...Peace, Love and Happiness Always to You and Yours!

Just found out that you can't delete and rerecord an entry...you're only given one shot and that's it! Sad...I did have a new rerecording with a fresh new format created...oh well...maybe next time if i make it in round two!
Peace

Hey!

I love your voice. You've got a freshness and energy that would certainly be welcome on my radio. :)

One thing, though, that I would welcome even more is a different, less stereotypical voice from the gay community. I can tell from your crisply casual speaking style that there is much more to you than gossip about American Idol. What will make us listeners cheer for you is whatever you consider unique about yourself. What are your biggest peeves in your day-to-day existence? Have you had any surreal moments while driving to work or having dinner with your family?

Gay men talking trash is the ultimate cliche, and as a friend of the gay community, I thirst for more diversity of opinion and style. Even from the short clip you've submitted, I call tell there's more to you, and I'm dying to hear it!

Take care, and much love,
Jennie

Your words really mean a lot! I do appreciate the insight, and agree with you. I use the entertainment news/trash talk as my platform...but there are also many levels to what I see my show becoming...I am not afraid to dive into those real life issues...this show would be multifascited, with many layers...like myself...the entertainment news/trash talk is the "hook" to grab the listeners in...after that, the rest of life is fair game! Thanks again!!

The last sentences should have read:
"So pull up a chair, sit back, and let's start slinging some trash!"

I must have got carried away in the excitement of submitting my entry! HA!

with all the energy you have going for you,
do you need to talk trash? I was glad I didn't hear any.

I guess my definition of "trash" isn't as bad as some think! HA!
