knit babydoll nightie - finished!

Submitted by carinbrat on May 22, 2007 - 12:32am. ::

Ok. I must preface this with saying I KNOW that this is totally self indulgent, and completely gratuitous... but a number of people expressed an interest in seeing the project (that I mentioned in my little blurb) when it was done.

Well, I finished it! And I'm just so tickled with how it turned out, I had to share.

(I justify this by saying I'm merely appeasing my fan base. Well, all two of you...)

Check it out!

So who was this made for, and when do we see her model it?

But seriously, this is quite an impressive piece of work. When I first read about it, I thought I'd feel sorry for the poor gal who had to wear it and the guy she was trying to excite. Knitted babydoll knightie? Please! Well I take all that back. That thing is hot, even on the mannequin!

You have serious talent. Thanks for sharing it.

Listeners welcome.

She belonged to my great aunt, and she is a very good model. And not nearly as demure as the intended wearer! (me!)

Thanks!

Isn't it fun to knit something unexpected? I made a Corrine dress from Knitting Fog some time back and it's always so rewarding to wear it out and know that I made it myself.

Do you do any designing?

Submitted by carinbrat on May 22, 2007 - 8:51pm.

I'm not familiar with that pattern... I must check it out!

I have begun dabbling in self-design, but not clothing... yet. *rubs hands together gleefully*

The term "babydoll" refers to the shape and cut.

Looked at your photos, those are just fab. I was going to ask if you'd share the pattern for the DNA, until I saw Gir. Please, please, please, please, please, please I am down on my knees begging for that pattern.

I heart Gir. I have a Gir as pirate icon. Invader Zim rocks. As do you.

Isn't anythign from Lion Brand straight form the devil?! hahaha. Egh feels so gross plus corporate.

This comment has no relation to your actual garment which uses Lion Brand yet is quite nice.

No offense taken.
I'll freely admit it, I'm a Yarn Snob.

I normally wouldn't touch Lion Brand with a 10 foot pole... but I had some of that blasted Fun Fur gifted to me and it spent years in my stash, lurking, waiting to embarrass me.

So when I acquired the Bernat Boa (again, free - at Knit Out '07) and I discovered that I was 1/2 way to the Babydoll... I finally had a use that wasn't revolting. Huzzah!

I won't ever attempt knitting (it might get dangerous) but I have friends who knit who I will definitely forward your site too---a babydoll nightie is so much sexier than the usual scarf!

It is surprisingly soft and comfortable. Not the most "supportive", (tee hee) but definitely comfortable.

Knitted sexiness? Excellent.
Now I really am serious about that spiderman costume. Halloween is only five months away.

That is just the cutest thing I've seen knitted in a very long time. How about a g-string or a pair of tangas to go with?

Submitted by carinbrat on May 22, 2007 - 11:13am.

I'll get right on it!
Since a g-string is about the size of a POSTAGE STAMP, I'm guessing an hour or so and it's DONE.

If you use the same yarns, do you think a g-string might prove to be a bit too tickly? =)

Submitted by carinbrat on May 22, 2007 - 11:24am.

I was thinking the same thing.

Maybe going with a simple cotton or soft acrylic, and doing a little lace pattern across the top of the front for a bit of fancy-schmancy-ness.

What a great idea! I need to branch out from knitting hats. I got into a groove and now everyone I know has one of my hats. This is such a great idea. Doesn't seem like it would take as long as a sweater, but it is more practical than knitting a bikini (which a friend of mine did, and it is sooo cute. But not necessarily something you'd swim in).

Thanks for sharing the photo and your yarn/needle size. I love marino. It is absolutely beautiful.

Submitted by carinbrat on May 22, 2007 - 11:11am.

I'd love to do a bikini, just to say I have done it. Which, I guess is the reason anyone would, because you are totally right - it's not something that's at all practical!

In the Naughty Needles book there's a whole chapter on bikini's...

Oooh, I want to check that out! Thanks for the tip. Perhaps just knitting the bra part would yield something I'd sport while weeding my garden or something. But even then, I might wind up flashing a tomato plant. This thread has been really fun to read. Thanks for posting the link to your nightie. I love reading everyone's reaction to this oddly controversial, and absolutely sexy garment.
