Sounds floating above the fray at Grand Central are nature's sounds, a jungle's sounds.

The steady low-pitch beat emanating below the ground floor flowing throughout open space. Ambient hum gently permeates the air while periodic distant screams and calls of primate-travelers greet each other. Listen to hear the rain and wind blowing through the leaves.

So I know this friend of a friend who studied architecture. We got into this fascinating discussion once about whether cities are "natural" habitats for humans. I've thought about this a lot since then. And, I think I'm convinced that buildings are our nests, our burrows, and dens. Like ants, we have built a vast, interconnecting habitat that suits us as social critters. Turns out, cities are also more "green" than I ever imagined because they use space more efficiently, leaving what we call "natural areas," open space, untended and more pristine. I find it fascinating that a submission of 2 minutes of ambient noise could provoke so many thoughts. Nice submission, creative and unique. Quietly insightful, and slightly subversive.
