The Bionic Woman

I had the hots for Steve Austin back in third grade, and Lindsy Wagner played Jaime Sommers, a character who was everything I wanted to be. Plus, she got to kiss him.

I sat and contemplated what I could do to grow up to be beautiful, bodacious and bionic. I didn't want to be Wonderwoman because she was too "fake." I knew I could never wear a blue solid metal boob plate in front of my dad. I mean, really!

I could have been Isis, but then Shazam would have been my brother, and ummmm...well, gross!

Charlie's Angels were amazing, but I wanted some sort of super power, plus, I knew I'd be Sabrina. I did, however, posess all of the collector cards from the series. They are probably still in a closet at my parents house.

Anyway, who did you WANT to be when you grew up?

They called me "The Saint" in junior high. The Simon Templar Saint, I mean. I always had my yellow plastic pea gun or Star Trek disk shooter on me. I thought TV spies were really cool, and The Saint was the coolest one of all. (Although I wouldn't have minded being an Avenger if I got Diana Rigg for a partner.) And The Saint had the coolest car- that Avanti. I still want one.

My very first email address was StNorton@somesmallcrappycompany.com My boss assigned it to me, based on my married name. I had thirteen years of "HEY, NORTON!" Anyway, everyone at work started calling me "St. Norton." I play cards on this website called Pogo, and they will not let me change my screenname, which is StNorton to this day.

The IRS changed my nameback to Brooks, social security changed it, a judge changed it, but Pogo will not budge. In Canasta land, I will forever be referred to as "St." We have so much in common, Jim Barfuss.

I wanted to be Jacques Cousteau. When I was 12 years old I thought he was the coolest thing going.

Later on, I wanted to be Albert King.

Even later on, I thought I was Wild Bill Hickok--I mean the guy as played on Deadwood: Depressed ex-gunslinger.

These days, I want to be Buddha.

I TOTALLY wanted to be wonder woman. I thought she was the SHIZZ.

I used to wear my mom's big glasses and pretend to work in an office and then spin around and turn into WONDER WOMAN!

Tragic Story from my childhood: Remember Underoos? Well, I wanted nothing more in life than a pair of Wonder Woman Underoos. My parent bought us presents and wrapped them up and I *knew* it was my WWU's. We opened them, and my little brother got Superman, of course. I ripped the paper off mine to find...SPIDERWOMAN UNDEROOS?!?! AAAAAARRRGH!!!

Apparently WW was sold out. Man. What. A. BUMMER.

Interesting side note--I did have one of those bionic woman barbie dolls. Do you remember them? They had parts of their bodies that would open up like a little door and inside you could see circuit boards and stuff?

Oh. And I also wanted to be Princess Leia.

The End.

I grew up wearing Geranimals. My mom believed that the only store on the planet was Meijer Thrifty Acres on Westnedge in Kalamazoo. If you couldn't buy it there, it didn't exist.

My grandmother used to kidnap me and take me to Jakes and Gilmores.

I did think that my brother's Bionic Man doll was hot. My mom wouldn't let us have both of them...she knew what they'd do, and Meijer was probably out of the Bionic Woman doll.

What do you think of this? A hot new comedy called, "Robbin' the Hood," featuring Dave Chappelle and Jaime Kennedy.

I used to go to my friend Michelle's to play Barbie. We both had metal trunks filled with clothes and a doll. We played for hours and argued over who had the best clothes. We used to buy interesting and unique outfits for them at the sales in Shipshewana, Indiana. I'm still shocked that the Amish make the best Barbie clothes. Of course there was a lot of calico.

Barbie was amazing. Barbie had everything. Last summer I stopped by my ex-sister-in-law's house while she was having a garage sale. My neice was selling her Barbie airplane and accessories. I didn't say anthing, but I secretly wanted it. I wanted to take it home, get out my old Barbie, and play for hours. Is that wrong?

Growing up, I loved the women and girls on Little House on the Prairie. Even crazy Mrs. Olson.

I've only seen a few episodes of Xena, unfortunately. But that's the kind of thing I'd love to watch. Some day, I'll get hold of the series.

I HAVE gotten hold of the entire Buffy series, and LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Hey, I wouldn't mind my kid saying she wants to be like Buffy. ;-)

The best episodes were when they moved to the city. I loved watching Mrs. Olson as a restauranteur. Amazing stuff.

Oh, and Nellie and Nancy...couldnt' get enough of them.

ehh... ehh.. ehh! What if your kid said she wanted to be/act like willow? Buffy's mom couldn't really deal with dawn wanting to "learn to do the things that tara and willow do together"... hahaha

just kidding!

Actually I would rather be like willow than like buffy, nothing against buffy...

You know, I've had the internal question about if my daughter came and told me she was gay... Seeing as I'm into theater it wouldn't be a life-changing realization. I'd probably just go from a sideline supporter to a full-fledged card-carrying PFLAG member. Actually, Tara was one of my favorite characters because she was a bit tall and awkward like me. :-)

I LOVED all of the Little House books so once they started going way out of the Ingalls-Wilder reality it was less into it, but it was still fun. I agree, Nellie/Nancy were fun....

There weren't that many Black women on TV in the 70s. I wanted to be a ballerina. I wanted my mom to be Willona Woods from Good Times, because Willona would never put up with the physical and verbal abuse my mother put up with from my dad...

I was a big fan of Wonder Woman and Isis was my absolute favorite. Both are available on DVD now. YAH!! WW had the best theme song.

Get us out from under, Wonder Woman!

P.S. I talk about my Bionic Woman playset in my PRTQ entry, too. :)

Honestly, if I were to have chosen an African American woman to be, it would have been Louise Jefferson. She had to have had superhuman powers to deal with George, but he was so funny, I just wanted to BE in that family.

NBC is bringing Bionic Woman back this fall starring Michelle Ryan and Miguel Ferrer. It looks like it's going to get what I call the "Battlestar Galatica" treatment, more 'realism' more grit more 'style.' I always loved those shows as well.

I just wish they'd bring back something I REALLY miss...like Underdog.

There's no need to fear, Underdog is here.

When criminals in this world appear,
And break the laws that they should fear,
And frighten all who see or hear,
The cry goes up both far and near for
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog, Underdog.

When in this world the headlines read
Of those who's hearts are filled with greed
And rob and steal from those in need.
To right this wrong with blinding speed goes
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog, Underdog.

I have had half of that song in my head all my life. Whenever I want to sing it, I'm in the car or at work and can't google the lyrics. Can you be my personal assistant Steve? I'm trying to figure out how to get a free one of those.

I'll be singing this all day. At least this gets Camptown Races out of my head.
