Modern "Old-Time" Radio

Submitted by Sleeves on April 17, 2007 - 10:20am. ::

While doing voice work about a year ago, I came across a very strong character "voice". The sound of the voice, while theatrical, seemed powerfully authentic. As I writer I've always been led by inner voices – but never by an outer voice, let alone one I'd come up with.

Although I love your influences, I doubted your doppelgänger based on musical taste and technological savvy. My grandma is Sleeves' age and I have to help her set her VCR clock - and have yet to meet a peer of hers with an interest in podcasting.

Sounds like old school radio. I can imagine myself sitting around the radio listening to your stories. Nice storytellers voice.

Now Sleeves will have one comment entry for every year he's been rattling around the earth on his boneshaker velocipede, planting poppy seedlings for opium tea. LOVE Sleeves, HATE Sean! Ironic, n'est-ce-pas?

This is simply smashing! I was ready to say I hoped I had that much gas in my tank at 79. Oustanding voice acting, and your regular voice ain't too shabby either. The concept blows me away.

And here is my very ordinary entry. Please tell me what you think.

Great voice(s), great production, really good writing, and a clever transition from character to self. Kudos, man, this is one of the best.

I like your entry, especially when your true voice comes through. Great job.

Wow. It's like someone made a delicious HP Lovecraft/Tom Waits radioshake! I'm gobsmacked. Well done.

Sherwin Sleeves has the talent, the writing, the voice, and the sincerity. He has it all, and I would listen to him every week. Good luck!

It's nice to hear a fellow thespian trying to revive this artform. This is a very rich character you've created. I think there's potential to do quite a bit with him. Please listen to my piece of radio theater and tell me what you think! http://www.publicradioquest.com/audio/user/5385

Great storytelling. I'd like more. I'd also like to hear more about what goes on in the background - interplay between the writing and music, etc.

There isn't enough real story telling on the radio. I'd love to hear more of this, Sean. Fantastic work!

I've heard nothing better than this. It just makes me glad there is a top ten first so someone else might have a chance at the big three! Sure, I like my own piece, and others, too, but this guy has MY top vote! I can't wait to tune in to the weekly broadcast.

The radio needs more true hauntings. Sleeves's hypnotic voice vibrates at the exact resonant frequency as my soul, sublimating it into the stratosphere. Delicious!

Definitely my favorite! Way to go Sleeves.

I may have a slight bias being Mr. Sleeves slightly younger sister, but to know my big brother has such amazing talent makes me want to shout off the rooftops, scream on the top of my lungs, and let the nation in on the best kept secret New Hampshire has had since no sales tax!

This is the most innovative, addictive and well-written broadcast I've ever heard anywhere, be it TV, public radio, or the internet.

Sleeves is a genius and deserves his rightful place amongst the giants of storytelling.

Atoms, Motion, and the Void is a very well written, imaginative show.
This is certainly something I would tune in to hear regularly.

I've been familiar with Sleeves' songs for a while but I only recently listened to his show. While I've only listened to a handful of broadcasts but so far I've been blown away. It's not the typical show and it might not be for everyone but if the average radio show had 1/10th of Sleeves' creativity the radio landscape would be in vastly better shape.
