Safeway Cindy

There's a woman who's been the most popular checker at the Evergreen, Colorado Safeway for years, though most people don't even know her name.

The arc of this piece was great. It had me with you from start to finish... and that voice! Terrific!

You've got the storytelling gift. And the payoff--hearing Cindy, even for a moment--was very satisfying. I'm sure a lot of work went into this, but it sounds effortless. That's the best there is. Never let them see you sweat!

I especially love the stinger on the end: you paint this fantastic picture about Safeway Cindy and then she shrugs it all of as "I'm just the checkout lady." All the more reason to find interesting souls like this and learn about them.

Wonderful piece, wonderful voice!

Thank you for reminding us to see everyone in our lives. And that each one is a whole person that matters.

Good timing and good voice work.

This is ringing a serious bell. Was it aired on Weekend America? I remember it (or think I do) because I enjoyed it so much.

Apparently, I need to add more in order to post this. But really, the heading sums it up.

I think every town or city has a character like this. You know how National Geographic features a zip code every issue? You could do something like that for local characters around the country.

This is a terrific human interest piece about an unlikely hero, delivered with a terrific radio presence. I hope to hear more. Good luck.
