Martha Burk tees off

(Not sure this will take...maybe third time's the charm. Would like to edit and amend. Shucks.) Again, this is from an interview with feminist rabble-rouser, the scourge of Augusta National, Dr. Martha Burk of the National Council of Women's Organizations.

Your voice makes you sound very calm, friendly, natural. Good host stuff.

Thank you, E!

I hate to say it but my experience with radio has often proved much to my chagrin that what's happening behind the mic can often be entirely more captivating than whatever's going out over the air.

WE think you're cute too, even with that hat on.

Wow! You made my day. Apologies for the tardy reply. I'm a technological loser, frankly, still on the manual typewriter, and the modern world can be a trial.
All best, Jimmy A

I think your first forty seconds establishes you as a hosty personality, and your interview shows your ability to connect with your guest with humor and interest. Nice work.

Very much appreciated. She was a tough nut at the time, understandably, because she was in the middle of a firestorm. I loved having her on and thought it went very well. Cheers, Jimmy A

Hey Jimmy, I loved your setup and I think you did a great job of establishing who you are and what your approach is in terms of interviewing. But when you played the clip of you and Martha Burk, it had much less energy than you demonstrated in your initial voiceover. Less Martha, more Jimmy is what I wanted. You sound upbeat and your delivery is on target - I just wish you'd used all your two minutes doing more of what you did in the intro to that clip.

Yes, I do make an effort to put myself in the background. Frankly, when I listen to talk radio I hear way too much host and not enough guest. I love the interviewers who get in quick with their question and get...out...of...the...way. Maybe this wasn't the best introduction from a ME standpoint but at least it's indicative of what I'm about. (As long as I've done my homework, I don't mind. The interview is always more about the guest than the host, right?)
