the SHOUT OUT PAGE!!
since the site has become such a dead cell...it's getting harder and harder to communicate with your friends....of course you send them an email throught their contact sheet, but they dont always check it...now I know for a fact if your still looming around this site your constantly checking the "active forum topics" on the left and watching to see what topic rises to the top to indicate a new post....or either your watching the "recent comments" to the right to see who posted what...and all the while checking your "track" box to see if you got any hits!!....am I right?
so now we have the shout out page!!...how does it work?? simple....lets say my boss walks in and demands me to come up with a poll!!!! and I need "the Q" immediatly...well I go to the shout out page and post a comment like.....hey Q are you here....because chances are your buddie is here reading and watching but you cant find them. when you see the shout out page come to the top left...you know someones looking for someone,,,and that that someone could be you.....and by the case example...I shout out for Q, she answers...I keep my day job.....see, easy and fun....espeacially if you dont have lightning fast DSL!!!!
use this tool to keep in touch on DEMAND!!
Saturday, September 29th, beginning at 9 AM (central), on WNUR 89.3 FM Evanston/Chicago, This is Hell broadcast a live new one hour show. We are also broadcast live online via WNUR's web site (http://www.wnur.org) under the heading, "Listen Online."
This week Chuck Mertz will welcome Charles C. Mann, author of "1491: New Revelations of the America Before Columbus" (Vintage)
And Jeff Dorchen will deliver a Moment of Truth.
Guests on upcoming shows include:
Saturday, October 13th, our guest will be Cynthia Stokes Brown, author of "Big History: From the Big Bang to the Present" (New Press http://www.thenewpress.com/)
Saturday, October 20th, we're back to a four hour show and our guests will include David Cole, co-author of "Less Safe, Less Free: Why America is Losing the War on Terror" (New Press, http://www.thenewpress.com/)
It was a fun ride, though the tail end was a little shaky.
I'd be nice to see what becomes of the finalists - and when we hear them on the air in NPR-land, we can all say - "I knew them when they submitted their first demo!"
Then we can find out where there show is... and cheer them on...
They'd let us do that...
sure... Just as long as we don't visit them during their show... tap on the glass, invite ourselves into the studio, where we'll drink coffee, eat doritos and talk about stupid stuff during the breaks... or talk on our cell phone when their mic is up... or fiddle with the transmitter settings... or spill the coffee on the mixer... bump into the microphone... knock over a rack of something and then get thrown into the street...
just as long as we don't do that...
everything will be cool.
I've been here for 23 strait weeks!
and a hell of a ride its been!! congrats to the winners - OPEN BAR ALL DAY!!!
lets get drunk and celebrate,
Chad,
You get my pick for best bartender. Maybe the winners will stop by and spend some of that big check. Thanks for being such a fun presence here. Wouldn't have been suck a lurker myself without you.
Theresa
Who could forget about you?
Well, anyone who WAS here couldn't - that's for sure.
Speaking of forgetting... What ever happened to Steve Stokes?
Man, that guy was the "Chad" of the first part of the contest. And now it's all over.
Guess I'll dust off my copy of BF2 for a while.

After my submission to round one went no where - I sent a copy to the Program Director of our local Public Radio station. After some positive feedback, brainstorming and wonderful conversation about the state of radio today - I now have a regular show running on the station! Wow...and to think it was all done on a whim (although, isn't everything great -initially just a shot-in-the-dark?)
If you get a chance - tune in..I appreciate all feedback as I build this show from monthly segments, into whatever it shall be!
www.KCBX.org - Go to Podcasts and stroll down to Conversations with the Reluctant Therapist...hosted by Elizabeth Barrett.
Thanks again for this amazing adventure - hope we all get to meet again next year!
It's been more than a while since I posted here. I guess when I didn't get to Round Two I thought,
''Well, that path to being more of a generalized radio host didn't work (in which I would make science one of the many topics in my potential radio show). Let's go back to thinking about the capitalist model of specialization and see if I can make my career in science journalism really sparkle... because I really love it (as I mentioned in my entry).''
Well, I'm really happy to say that now I'm a ''staffer'' at Science magazine. Officially an ''Associate Online Editor,'' I run the Science podcast, including voicing, writing, editing... everything! (You can also get it on iTunes.)
If you like Science, please give the podcast a listen and please give me a shout about how to make the show better. I just took the position in July, just made it weekly in August (to match the weekly magazine), and now in September am to the point where I can run the podcast rather than the podcast running me... meaning I can mix it up a bit and try new things.
Please, I'm open to any and all suggestions and would love your input. Yes, I'll be continuing to listen to and give input to PRTQ folks, but if any of you have any suggestions for me, I would really appreciate it.
Of course, please forgive the shameless self-promotion, but I really could use your input.
Many Thanks,
Robert
I listened to the file last night. You are right at home! What a perfect fit, you and that job. I was impressed with how you conducted and edited your interviews. Your voice and perspective make you the ideal host for the podcast. It sounds like you've been doing it for years. Hooray!
I really appreciate your comments!
Perhaps you'll listen to this week's podcast, too?
I think all PRTQ fans will appreciate one interview especially.
(I can't say who because the content of the magazine is embargoed until this Thursday afternoon, when it is published (and the podcast comes out on iTunes... clicking here will get you to the right place).)
Now, on to voting for PRTQ!
-Robert
Hey y'all!
Glad to be back around, well kinda. (This secret double-agent life can be a chore, I tell ye!) I did vote last round, tho it was silently. I wasn't too surprised with the results. I'm excited to hear these show demos, bring 'em on!
Until Again, -W.
Hope y'all can join me for some music fun on my weekly show. www.wyce.org Fridays 3-6pm ET

This is hell nine eight oh seven
Features a guy named Ray McGovern
He got lots of back pats
When working for fat cats
But now he feels bitter and burned
I think more teasers should be in rhyme.
FYI
Past contestant Carrie Kaufman has produced a 15 minute interview with On the Media's Brooke Gladstone. http://www.publicradioquest.com/node/2568
And this week's guest on an abbreviated 1-hour "This is Hell"(http://www.thisishell.net/) with Chuck Mertz will be:
* Ray McGovern, former CIA analyst. Ray was one of President Ronald Reagan's intelligence briefers and was one of several senior CIA analysts who prepared the President Bush's Daily Brief Upon retirement, Ray was awarded the Intelligence Commendation Medal from then President Bush. However, Ray later returned the medal in a protest against the US government's use of torture. He now serves on the Steering Group of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity. He recently wrote in Counterpunch, "Do We Have the Courage to Stop War with Iran?" (http://www.counterpunch.org/mcgovern08312007.html)
And correspondent Jeff Dorchen will deliver a Moment of Truth.
If you missed it, last week's This is Hell guest was Matt Taibbi from The Rolling Stone, and that show is available in This is Hell's archives.
For weeks the peace was widespread
Just a few comments, a post and a thread,
Then out of thin air.
There's messages everywhere.
And then I look back...
and it's dead.
The part of the coyote will be played by my son. He is holding no sign. He uses his mouth to communicate, instead. And when he screams, "Let's go outside," the roadrunner (that's me) jumps up leaving all unfinished networking behind.
"Yipe!" I love how your mind works, Frohlich.
There once was a quester named Jim
Who joined the fray on a whim.
The judges they thought
Jim was here for naught.
And Jimmy's visits 'came slim.

Questers named Jim once did abound
They numbered some sixty, I've heard.
Just one or two still come around
Maybe hoping they'll still get the word.
The others are gone (who knows where?)
It seems now it's just me and you
who drop down a poem here and there
or a limerick, or Questers' haiku.
Shall I stay awake, or press the snooze again for another month or so...
Rich
I thought you had retired??? no real life here in the last month!! only a posse of loud mouth, ill wishing chuck fans!! but luckily they are all gone now...as normal 11 pointers move on after thier favorite loses...so activity is back down to a bare minimum...with only one post per every 24 hours or so....whats new?
Must be something in the air. I'm dropping by for the first time in a while. Seems the Chuckdust has settled. Any word on the challenge for Round Four? I hope it gives the remaining contestants an opportunity to put their riches on display like the very first round of this contest did.
