the CRYPT

Submitted by chadbullock on June 22, 2007 - 7:15am. ::

lets face the facts....this site is so dead, the coffins starting to rust! there may be more people out there "lurking" on the site than we know about....but one thing's for sure, theres no more than about 10 of us even using this site for more than reading.wonder what would happen if we up and "vanished" like the rest of the 1452 former contestants? all I know is that this place is dying a little more day by day....
and posting by yourself until you fill up the "recent" comments box up is getting old fast. we have built the most exciting and fascinating forum threads ever known since this site started..yet no one posts on them...other than the 10 or so of us I mentioned earlier. is the PRTQ approaching it's very own appocolypse? even the finalists don't care to log on and participate here.(with the exception of 1 or 2 of them) they're turning out to be less active than the 11 pointers were lol!
well I guess only time will tell...but I dont see things turning around after round 2...

I'm here Chad. I've been reading posts all morning, have been doing some relevant reading about cyber-culture, have been plotting my round three strategy (the challenge has been emailed to us, but I don't want to discuss it yet here until the judges publicly announce it). At the moment, I'm taking some time to write a considered response to one of your posts. So, yes on the surface it's a bit quiet, but we're all here, our energy focused on the quest, but some of us are just busy behind the scenes at present. Talk to you soon, man.

the finalist' page....they're allot of mindless zombie comments posted there...

Submitted by chadbullock on July 6, 2007 - 11:44am.

here we are on round 2..and guess what? the site is deader than it was prior to voting on round 2...95% of any new and fresh comments are merley ass kissing comments from undercover family and friends who are registering and voting for that one particular person. it's so fake, that it beyond hilarious just to read it. I doubt any person in history
from Abe Lincoln to MLK has gotten such rave reviews for 3-4 minutes of talking.
it's like watching a politcal campaign
unfold...people over exaggerating the praise while others bring out the dirt.lol...
your view?

You know, I think most of the 1451 went away when they found out they didn't reach the second round. Some of them, I think, came back once to vote for round 2, but they don't stick around--the interest is gone for them. And, for me, in the early stages of round 1, the fun was in listening to bunches of entries. Now, it takes about an hour to listen to the 10 entries. Then what? I've taken to going through and listening to the top 100. And the blogs aren't even easy to get to anymore. We're posting, but there is no blog link on the menu bar anymore.

Submitted by RFrohlich on July 6, 2007 - 3:12pm.

I only bother with one link - the "recent posts" link at the top left corner. It shows quite clearly where the activity is (or isn't) as far as the posting is concerned.

There may be stuff happening below the surface - but who knows... (only those who are able to see the site stats and web counters)

up here it just seems pretty quiet.

You mean like this?

I just wanna say that after reading that, I think that Chad is the BEST comment writer EVER. I mean when he writes, he not only makes his point with razor sharp clarity, but it's like he's talking INSIDE my head... literally... and I'm hearing his voice and everything - except it has a deep Scotish accent, (a legitimate one, not one with a mild speech impediment like Sean Connery) and also with a slight bit of reverb and frequency compression.

It's really inspiring.

Chad you Rock!

In classical mechanics, momentum is the product of the mass and velocity of an object. It can also be thought of as how difficult it is to stop an object in motion.

I originally thought this site had LOTS of momentum - but it left surprisingly short skidmarks in the road.

As we've noted that it's completely dead here, but they didn't put enough thought into the structure of the competition, and there aren't enough things going on here to keep anyone other than us interested other than every five or six days. Its a shame because of the serious traffic and momentum that was built up before the end of Round 1.

Also, I think almost everyone took it personally...

you would at least think that out of 15,000 registered users...more than 10 of us would still be here?

Submitted by Rich Meitin on June 22, 2007 - 10:14am.

... of less traffic here is that most of the conversations are merely friendly/chit-chatty. The site has become a very small group of pals who are mostly just chewing the fat. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but ... it's NOT the sort of thing that invites thoughtful participation from anybody OTHER than the tiny "in-crowd." In fact, it might tend to make people feel excluded.

Maybe we should try starting a few NPR/PRX related topics with more meat on the bones? I think that might invite more participation.

What do y'all think?
