Round 2 entry for Anne Glickman
This contest isn't about finding the next Mara Liasson. Or is it?
I appreciated the rough quality of the recording and her authentic excitement that made her stumble and repeat herself on the challenge question.
Funny how she was commenting on teens and at the same time it was like listening in on a phone conversation between two teen girls.
Her choice to be a bit unpolished was smart.
Her personality and her excitement made the 'Anne experience' a bit more intimate than the others finalists.
Next, I'd like to hear some political commentary from her.
She bring her personality to the material.
Refreshing!
Like, whatever, right? I liked the teenage butt part and the part about the hippie road rage. Reminds me of when Bryce calls in on "The best show on WFMU." There is nothing more telling of the human condition than hippie rage. All in all, I do not hate you. But something about your gaze and the camera angle in your picture makes me think I might grow to hate you. Till then, keep up the good work and congratulations on making it to the next round.

Her association would make me listen, and it would make her very human, though she wouldn't command my respect from it. Nonetheless, I was endeared and moving with her. Too many umms, but that can be fixed. Her original writing in the billboard, pretty good on the red.
if Anne were on the radio. The dulcet tones of her voice belie her hilarity and pointed, perceptive views on the world around us. Put this lady on the radio before TV rots my brain!
After listening to all the entries (which were all quite good), Anne's voice stuck with me. She sounds fresh and smart and laugh-out-loud hilarious. I think if she had her own NPR show I wouldn't be able to multitask while I was listening to her - I would just want to kick back and enjoy.
After the free association, my first thought was wow I'm going to have to give her below a 3. Way too casual. Too many ums, likes, whatevers. I talk that way too but I don't want to hear it on the radio. Then comes the recovery. The live read went really well except for a couple of word bobbles but overall it was a voice that caught my attention and made me listen. Then the cherry on top was the advert. Captures exactly how I relate to the radio, except I plead the fifth about the barren womb thoughts.
because her voice is one that makes you feel like she's down. Not down as in low, but down as in with it. In the sense that she doesn't sound like she's trying to be funny, not trying to be smart. She just sounds funny, sounds smart. And, I like her flat A's. Maybe that's why, of all the contestants, she's the person I want to have telling me a funny story before some depressing news; she's the voice that that won't make me turn the dial. A keeper, they call it. So, keep her.
I was working my way through it, but you finally lost me at 4:18. You're from Chicago. I love the fact that you're from Chicago. I want to get you drunk and listen to you bitch about every little thing that's happening in your life. BUT, I refuse to hear your voice on WBEZ after a long day of listening to bullshit and bullpiss at work. You are a refuge, not a destination.
There were too many of them. I'm the same age as this person and I would never have thought so.
Not that I could have done better, but this is a competition and this lovely lady sounded like a teenager as opposed to speaking about the demographic. Her voice was near strident as she ramped up her story about an encounter on the interstate. On a scale from 1 - 10, my rating would fall in the middle
That free association...yikes. I think I actually feel a little more stupid having listened to that.
... of her word-association, but the "ums" and such were in the end distracting. over-all enjoyable and good performance, however.
I like her take and observations, but way too many "you knows" and "whatevers"... A person in this contest must practice telling stories because the signal-to-noise is way to high in everything that comes at us in this media saturated environment to have to put up with verbal filler and repetition of menaingless words.
Anne is really funny and one of my favorites, but for the love of everything that annoys me, enough “um” and “like.” Overall, I enjoyed Anne’s round 2, but would suggest sharper enunciation. The billboard was effing fantastic.
A gaggle of teenagers? I think the correct term is a gathering of teenagers... or pack… or maybe it's a murder? In any case it is not a gaggle!
Still, good stuff!
and yes, you should have children soon.
every year you dont is one less you will spend with your grandchildren.
and one day, that's all you'll have to wake up for in the morning...

I coined the phrase "an angst of teenagers."

Anne did a great job with the live read up til the skip at the end. She sounded enthused and natural. That part of things was very strong. I was not really engaged by the free association. It was a little too conversational for my radio tastes. Like I was listening unwillingly to one side of a cell phone conversation while waiting in line for the campus transit bus.
since this actually was one side of a phone conversation.
i think she rocked the billboard, though...
and the dang computer is making me write something in this space, so i'll just say you've def got that special npr-icity.
I have been waay too absent from judging lately. This is my first time seeing the finalists.... I almost peed my pants for joy to find Anne here! *gives Anne a large round of applause* *Well, large from just one person, but...*
I'm a fellow Glickman so maybe I am biased, but I count Anne as one of the most talented ladies I know. If you likey what you've heard here, there is much more hillarity to come...
Anne's ability to bring humor, and at times the absurd to everyday occurrences makes listening to her both enjoyable and surprising. She is able to focus on an issue at the same time that she entertains and intrigues the listener. I wholeheartedly hope that she will become a permanent fixture on NPR. Sincerely - All of her family (we are awfully proud)...there are 154 of us and we all listen to NPR...to save all 153 of us from having to send in individual emails...just count this one email as 153.
