Great timing with the grandparents at the end of the improv. The “gay guy and a straight girl” comment at ~0:45 was really good, but the rest didn’t do that much for me. I’d like to hear more from you.

I like Carrie. She's the sound I tend to hear on NPR already. Every piece was nice. But I didn't have a driveway moment with any piece and I actually quit the advert early. That being said Carrie is a much more solid contestant in all three areas than some of my other 3s have been.

I'd bake her a cake on her birthday, but I'm not loaning her $2k to cover her gambling debts.

not remarkable.

I could easily hear this on NPR. This seems like a perfect fit. Okay, why can no one correctly pronounce conquistador?

Her pleasant voice reminds me of a favorite teacher--reassuring,concerned and authoritative without sounding "bossy." Diction and inflection did not disappoint either. Her ease with the language is what one would expect--from a teacher.

Submitted by irateindian on July 7, 2007 - 8:46pm.

I liked that she sounded unpretentious (quite unlike what you normally hear on public radio) however it sometimes felt like she was trying too hard. Her billboard especially was unnaturally dramatic, kindof like a high school english class reading Shakespeare.

Submitted by Robb Mitchell on July 7, 2007 - 4:52pm.

Carrie seems to be most at ease when reading and probably the most anchored within herself. Like a radio personality, Scott Simon for example, the reader/presenter stay confidently and assuridly within their own range, even with its limitation. It is when they try to step out of the range or blow by it with "acting" or exxageration that trust is lost with the listener. I think Carrie showed the most maturity and ease with just being in the space of the reading or being "on-the-air."

Submitted by donbliss on July 7, 2007 - 12:56pm.

carrie is amusing, intelligent, and creative. i thoroughly enjoyed the word assocation, and she did extremely well in the other categories as well. another "high five" from me.

Submitted by shug13 on July 7, 2007 - 10:47am.

This was one of my favorite word associations. Interesting, funny, and sincere. Carrie’s strength seems to be candidness. If Al Letson doesn’t win, I hope Carrie does.

I have a feeling that you would be fantastic in an interview but sub par reading copy...

that's fine, people who are most comfortable reading other peoples words are the likely the least interesting people to in a real conversation.

I think a live interview/ talk show format would be your domain...

You've got it. And, if you like, give me the address of anyone who says otherwise, and I'll happily give THEM a quick makeover.

See ya next round.

You have great intonation and a lot of variation and personality in your voice. You sound professional yet entirely human. Yours would be a welcome voice on radio.
Good luck!

I really enjoyed all three of your pieces. You sound smart and funny, but the unusual thing that comes through to me is compassion. I get the feeling that you could relate to a vast array of different topics and guests. For just a moment, I felt that your tone was a bit heavy, but in an instant, it turned back into a voice that is both deep and light, which is also unusual and nice to hear. Great job.

Submitted by willowrose on July 3, 2007 - 4:45pm.

but fun! I like Carrie's personal, unpretentious style (maybe watch out for some of those words like "egregious"). Seems like she can laugh at herself and feel like a neighbor -- the sort of neighbor you can borrow stuff from or ask to turn down the stereo. It would be nice to have a new woman's voice on NPR that just sounds like regular folks.

Submitted by clk on July 5, 2007 - 1:45pm.

My friend and I debated over "egregious." But in the end, I couldn't come up with a better description. And I love how it sounds. I have a list of favorite words, just for the sound of them, and that's one of them.

But point taken.

I agree with Carrie that we all have our own style and the shows always seem to force one on the guys and girls and what would be better is to follow up on these people 6 months or a year later to see what they really accepted.

The read was quite good with minor stumble that we all have once in a while.

The original piece was wonderful and made me want to hear what would have followed the introduction.

Great going Carrie - good luck!

Out of all the word association choices, the word you get is ...style.
This word could not be more fitting for you and your children. You guys truely have STYLE!
Good Luck and enjoy!

Submitted by painkillerthepigeon on June 29, 2007 - 9:05pm.

The word association was quite good, a few pauses or uncertainties, but in general well handled, and certainly made personal.
The copy read was a little rough, though, with some uncertainties that hurt the overall impression.
The billboard was good, I thought, nice that it ended with a lead-in to the news. Overall I'd say I enjoyed this entry, but I didn't find it the most engaging.

Regardless of fashion....Carrie's talk "style" is very thought-provoking and entertaining. I especially enjoy her ability to prioritize herself while maintaining her relationship with others. She successfully ties this theme into other interesting topics.

Submitted by TracyT37 on June 29, 2007 - 3:22pm.

Improv: Love the story, very intriguing and I hate style shows. One minor "umm." Terrific work.

Live read: A very good read, very smooth and keeps interest. One minor stumble.

Billboard: A great introduction to the show, no stumbles that I hear. Makes me intrigue to listen to the show.

Overall, a great showing on your part. Great voice, smooth, moving along. Keep it up.

maybe the next terry gross. you sounded calm and collected and even while surfing around on the web, you kept my attention. (I drive all day, so radio voices really have to capture me) great job!

You have a great voice, Carrie!

I really enjoyed listening to Carrie's comments and thoughts. She has a voice that is pleasant to listen to, nice tenor, nice inflection, etc! Great job! I also found her ideas to be thought-provoking, insightful, and humorous.

Honest, thoughtful, professionally performed, and funny when appropriate.
What more could you ask for? Excellent job.

Submitted by skidoo on June 28, 2007 - 8:25am.

But it sounds very affected and overly dramatic. I see wild gesticulating in my mind's eye.

Submitted by Al Letson on June 28, 2007 - 12:41pm.

Carrie, I think everyone brings something of themselves to each entry. Personnally, I like your style. I think it fits you, and therefore works for me. Because I want to get to know you. Not some attempt to sound like someone else. What April does is brilliant, but it's her. What you do is brilliant, and it's you. Revel in you, because you are truely special.

Submitted by clk on June 28, 2007 - 11:33am.

I don't fully disagree. I listen to people like April and Chuck and I slap myself on the head and say, "Yes, just read Carrie. Just read the words." Lesson learned.
