Ouch! Some feedback's a bit rough

I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of some of the comments being posted. While constructive criticism is great when asked for, I'm not sure all of this is constructive, or asked for. When feedback is commenting on water under the bridge performed under pressure and inherent to one's personality/style/etc., it just doesn't seem helpful to bluntly criticize. And given the entry is out there, perhaps feedback is more palatable when positioned as "I liked X in your submission and next time I'd love to hear more Y."

I give them all kudos for A) beating me resoundingly in round one, and B) putting themselves out there in a hugely public and scary (for some) way.

I was thinking the same thing and wondering how this could be addressed. Some of the comments are just plain mean.

I'm going to bring it up with my fellow judges.

"Just plain mean" should be just plain purged.

While many eliminated Questers have expressed disappointment and posted fairly blunt critiques, the vast majority of the rudest comments come from independent fans of particular entrants who show no interest in or support of PRTQ or public radio beyond advancing their single choice. The uncivil tone and lack of respect on display makes me question the wisdom of bringing such a fan base aboard, and has given me pause in my support for a previous favorite.
NPR hostiness should encourage civilized discourse.
You can fix that, and I sincerely hope that you do.

It seems the less contestants, the more fervor or fanaticism comes out of some fans. I'm worried that these people will override the competition. I'm glad it's been solved right now.

which is why we've ranted and ranted since the start to ban these type of people.....

The weirdest thing is that I'm fairly certain all ten of the contestants are in the "can't we all just get along?" camp, so it's funny/sad/disconcerting to see (some of) the audience being so much more aggressive, as though they're the ones competing.

in Round 1 (EZ, Jennifer B., Linda Lowen, Moijo, among many others) who were quick to cast waters of kindness upon anyone who tried to start negative fires and did so much to give this endeavor a positive tone.
In Round 2, the matches may be flung in a much, much smaller circle and have a more noticable impact. Increasingly pointed comments are to be expected in this and coming rounds. Firefighting (to me) is a quality that displays great Hostiness. Who will emerge as the firefighters now?

It seemed that some comments had a bit of venom. If a voter likes someone - they won't improve that contestant's chances by writing nasty things to the competition.

Let's hear it for more positive criticism! Try to be balanced and promote them to get a chance in the future, because even 2/3 ain't bad. :)
