Since auditioning on this website

I have always wanted to be "on the radio." In fact years ago, I was an active licensed amateur radio operator, so in a sense I operated my own radio station for many years! It was a little unreal talking to other amateur operators literally all over the world. It was especially interesting to talk to operators behind the "iron curtain."
Well, I've never really pushed myself to get involved in commercial or public radio. But when I heard about this audition, I became really excited. I enjoyed preparing my two minute "scoop" and became very involved in listening to other auditions and voting and leaving comments. And of course, I told anyone who would listen about my audition and invited them to come to this website and vote for me AND others.
When I was not selected after round one, I allowed myself to feel very disappointed for at least a day and a half! and then I returned to listening, voting, and commenting.
Then I got a phone call from an advertising agent who had heard of my interest in being on the radio from my good friend and colleague, Bruce. The agent invited Bruce to be a guest on a call in talk show. He declined the offer, but gave the agent my name. So being involved here has rattled the universe enough that I was a guest on a radio show on Tuesday, July 16 and on a television show on July 17. Two days in a row. Not bad!
The shows are "Your Call," and presented by the local PBS station, KVCR. The host of the show indicated that they would be asking me back. The topic of the show was the challenges that military families and military personnel face in deployment and in return from combat in particular. The advertising agent represented the California Association of Marriage Family Therapists of which I am a member.
So maybe there is truth in that interesting perhaps sappy saying that we are all winners! Thanks Public Radio Quest DOT com

When I wrote a couple of books, I got to do lots of "expert" interviews on TV and radio - it's fun. I ended up being on major national TV shows and quoted in nearly every major women's magazine (my books were on personal finance), and I'd say 80% of the leads came from prleads.com - well worth it if you want to position yourself as an expert and if you are aiming to ever write or have your own show. Having a handful of clippings and recordings goes a long way with agents and publishers. Also, the clips lead to various chances for paid public speaking gigs at conferences - when I was focused on it, it was a lucrative and fun sideline.

I told you so. It's the willingness to put it out there that creates the possibilities. For some of us, the wins will merely be the personal satisfaction of having tried; for others, local opportunities. Even without the "grand prize", it's still in the win column.
For me, I've already had the opportunity to do local radio and to get up on stage at a music festival (both of which, I now realize, had always been there). What I have won so far is a regained confidence to put it out there as well as the knowledge, courage, and contacts to attempt other related activities.
Keep winning, Vernon! This only the beginning.

So glad to hear of your success. Not surprising though; your Round One entry was great. I'm hoping so very much that I do make it through the last round, but if not, I'm going to follow your example and get myself out there how ever I can. Congrats, Vern, and thanks for reminding us that the energy we've put in here can yield satisfying rewards so long as we stick to it and roll with the opportunities.

Thanks for the comments. And Chris, I fixed the link on my profile and when you get to the website, you will see a lot of funny stuff, AND/BUT nothing current. I try to avoid But's!
I am still writing every morning and right now every spare moment. I am currently working on a "short"-- hope to keep it under fifty pages-- book or guide for couples who fight all the time!
I'll continue to follow your journey as well as the others. I have not been able to keep up with my involvement in the website to the degree I was a couple of weeks ago. Part of it is this guide for couples I am working on.
Again thanks to both of you for the feedback
